If you don't spend a quarter on each life you're cheating whether you use save states or not. Its still not honest playing. Its not how it was meant to be played. The calculus is wrong. Sometimes you'd have to leave regardless of if you could beat it or not if you ran out of coins or couldn't afford anymore plays.
