How come no one ever mentions Golden Axe 3? It's my favorite one and I still never beat it. One day. Great music, tight gameplay, nice graphics, multiple paths, more characters, new characters, long game. It's so great.

Oh god, is that the arcade game? HUGE disappointment. Literally the only good thing about that game was the magic attacks. They looked really good. But the gameplay, music and graphics were all complete garbage. The centaur character was pretty cool though.

Golden Axe is overrated poopy. The most important element of a belt scroller is for your hits to feel satisfying and in that fart turd there is no real difference between hitting air and hitting a black guy in Detroit in front of a white cop instigating systemic murder. Hint one of these is supposed to be way more impactful than the other..

My personal favorite is Golden Axe III, but the first two Golden Axe games have a much stronger Sword and Sorcery feel to them.
The Rastan series is another good example of the genre.

It’s the difference between The Lord of the Rings and Conan the Barbarian.
High fantasy is often characterized by epic, worldly struggles between clearly defined good and evil.
Sword and Sorcery tends to work best on a much smaller scale and mainly deals with individual survival.
That’s why barbarians are so popular in the latter, because they epitomize that notion of self-reliance in a dangerous world.

Not at all anon. There's a substantially different feeling to each genre. I also wouldn't say High Fantasy is intrinsically deeper then Sword and Sorcery just because it deals with larger stories.
