the second. I'm 18

>> No.7398615

A bit of both, I guess.
Having grown up next to the SNES ('93 here), I couldn't really follow its games on release. Thanks to my siblings we had some SNES games so I could at least play them at all. Likewise with the Gameboy, though I got more of its life time.
And I've lived through the 5th gen so I could play some games on release (more or less) and talk about them with friends, getting the full experience.
Only thing I miss, because I missed the time, was of arcades. Nowadays, there are none where I'm from.

Neither. I'm here because I like games and designs related to those games from past time periods. I don't want to go back (well maybe on holiday to a few places), I wasn't alive for much of it, and to be frank, you can enjoy things that were around in the past without it due to being nostalgia or some sense of being out of place and time.

it's complicated, being born in 93' i feel that people who born in the 80s most likely enjoyed the 90s even more. i lived it but it all just went over my head. being high school age in the 90s was probably cool but i wouldn't trade what i had for anything. my only regret is not having more than 1 girlfriend in my teens. sex is always something i wanted more of. fucking sucks dude, now that i'm older the chance to be with women that age is pretty much OUT

I had lived them, and I'm primarily just interested in "retro games", it's incidental. I don't really get into game nostalgia much or waxing poetic about the old days, cause I've pretty much always just been primarily interested in games from the 80s and 90s, I play modern games when one interests me but I'm just more into the conventions of 2D games.

I was alive for the NES era, but I moved on, I just don't have a choice. If I had money I'd be playing PS4 games right now, but then I'd miss out on digging for new old shit to play that's interesting, so it's not all bad.

I long for the 90s and times like when my brother and I played SMW on launch day for the SNES, staying up to 3am conquering the Star World.

In less than 10 years I watched games go from Zelda on the NES as a child to Ocarina of Time in my teens. The evolution was insane in hindsight.

This is one of the few boards I have ever found with anons who experienced that too and talk about it or even anons who like to hear the boomers talk about it.

That's when this place was still much better. It really sucks to get hooked on something when it's genuinely fun and engaging only to notice a while later that you are now chained to a bloated corpse that's started to rot a long time ago and now is crawling with nothing but maggots.

I miss when the community was still a community, boards where doing collaborative stuff frequently and 4chan was still a secret clubhouse instead of a refugee center for facebook and reddit rejects. When those sites started banhammering normies, we got flooded with their trash and it shows.

I'm here because I hate modern games and everything they stand for.
It's abundantly clear games were much better in the past. Modern AAA stuff is casualized and/or movie shit, and modern indie games, while often good/great on their own, are mostly only using concepts rehashed from older games.
Nobody is doing anything cool or interesting with videogames now that we have hardware so fast you can make anything you can imagine, just more pathetic attempts at action movies. Games like Kenshi and Starsector where the whole world is more or less procedural and simulated/manipulated realtime show the promise of what a game can be but nobody cares.

>> No.7409767

I was born in the late 80s, so I lived through some of it, but stuff like the 2600 is before my time. I never outgrew old games and continued to play them even during the period when they were simply old and not trendy.
Always funny to see /vr teenagers who watched some streamers and YouTube ecelebs and think they're now experts on anything relating to old games. I'm all for new people developing an interest in old shit, but watching people try to genuinely argue that "PSX" wasn't an often used abbreviation for the original PlayStation (and the subsequent "the real PSX is a PS2 multimedia device") or that the SNES PlayStation was some elaborate 3D printed hoax because something something differently discolored plastics or whatever can be laughable.
