You really need to subscribe to better youtoube channels, and learn what words mean.

>>7341662
From what I've heard it wasn't very popular in the US and I think a lot of cards were Japan only. It's kind of convoluted and a pain int the ass to use but is interesting and useful, in particular for the Japan version of pokemon. The emulators are also pretty cool.

>>7341724
Was reasonably popular here. Nearly everyone I know had one or knew someone who did. Was basically a requirement if you were a pokemon autist.

I have one and still have my cards in a binder somewhere, thought it was pretty neat and really liked the stuff like getting the Eon Ticket for Pokemon.

>> No.7342085

Lots of the cards actually had real content on them. The NES games for examples. They weren't just paywall unlockers.

>microtransactions
There was a Capcom game on the PS2 by 2003 that was going to be the first free-to-play game with microtransactions and online play to make it work, but it didn't release because they didn't figure out a good enough monetization model.
If you want to go back, the arcade version of Double Dragon 3.

>DLC
the sole gameboy color release with the MBC6 memory controller had this for the mobile game adapter (2000, Konami release) + DreamCast already had this by 1998 for stuff like Sonic Adventure 1.

>Online Virtual Console
DreamCast did this for select megadrive, master system, and PC Engine titles, but only in Japan. US equivalent was their very last american release, retail only, and infamous for a readme file left in the cart

>officially licensed malware rootkit
Some Atelier game on the DreamCast did this too in 1999.

Err... the DLC for Fire Emblem Sealed Sword, Super Mario Advance 4, trainer data for the Pokemon Gen 3 e-reader exclusives, Mario Party e... were all physically on the cards. They were downloaded in the save file.

it uses infrared to link two game boys together. I think the idea is that the game boys have to be "kissing" to work.

This was before Nintendo did the same thing for GBA.

And then, they made that modem so you can connect to the internet and share content.
For instance you could get new official maps for Nectaris GB from Hudson's website.

Jap only of course.

I rly wish the game&watch series got released. I hate random card packs but would be cool to have a collection of small gba titles that could have been stored on a single card.

Actually, this isn't so bad. At least you can STILL physically get the card.

Now, the event for the DS Pokémon games? There is no official servers anymore, no legit way to do it except to use fan made servers.

Pokémon Pikachu 2 (little Tamagotchi-like device, glorified pedometer really) could *kiss* with Pokémon G/S/C and you’d get extra items through the Mystery Gift option in-game. Works on US and EU releases as well.

GTI Club also has this thing where you could insert additional coin(s) to play as a mish-mash of Bugatti EB110 and McLaren F1.
