What games do you remember hearing about? Did anything blow you away? Did you get the chance to play anything during this time?

>> No.7296817

Oh and I'm also interested in hearing your experience with these handful of games even if you just played them recently

yes i played precisely virtua fighter and it unironically blew my mind
kids from all over the neighorhood were coming to my house to worship the 3d game as a religious symbol, most weren't allowed the opportunity to play and were grateful enough to just witness it firsthand with their own yes
i had kids i had no clue who they were just entering my house to witness it
the transition from 2d to 3d it was a magical time

Not particularly with the SS since I was accustomed to 3D PC games which looked way better in general, but I remember seeing stuff like Sonic Adventure and Rayman 2 on the launch demo disc for the Dreamcast and being fucking speechless at the extreme smoothness and texture quality.

Saturn was always state of the art compared to the gaystation

VF2, though a lesser port was amazing at the time. Daytona felt shitty compared to the arcade.

I think I remember seeing an ad for clockwork night around the saturn's release and being pretty impressed -then again pretty much any 3-D game impressed me at the time

I got this and Panzer Dragoon years ago for the PC, here in Europe, Sega was more likely to port their games to PC since we are more PC orientated thus we never saw a Saturn here, I mean, about only 26 games were released for the EU Saturn so it isn't suprising. All in all, I'm glad Sega always ports a lot of their games to PC

I remember a lot of Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA talk in magazines pre-Saturn release. Once it released, I remember being in a store in which a worker was demoing Virtua Fighter to a few potential purchasers of the console. It was a fight between Pai and Akira I believe? The clients seemed quite amazed but don't know if they actually ended purchasing it, I was just passing by.

lolwut.Nah. Didn't get a chance to play anything during that time. Heard about virtua fighter. Was not in the slightest bit blown away by it as I wasn't even really impressed by the arcade version. I was much to old to be impressed by muh "real 3D" by then.

If Sony didn't stick their nose where it didn't belong and ruin the entire console gaming industry, how would the Saturn have been remembered?

probably not that differently. Still as being vastly inferior to the n64

It depends. Saturn being the main next gen console between 1995 and 1996(US)- 1997(Europe) would have given a great push to sales. It all comes down to who would have gotten the Final Fantasy series exclusivity. Would they have rejected N64's cartridge system and jump to the Saturn or would they have remained with Nintendo?

that's pretty awesome if that story is true. I think the first realtime 3D I ever witnessed was virtua fighter 1 in the arcade. It was mindblowing for sure

VF is a great series. VF4Evo is the greatest fighting game I ever played and I learned more about fighters by playing it's amazing training mode than from watching pros or reading guides online or in paper form.

A lesser port compared to what? It was a much better port than Virtua Fighter 1 was on the same system. I owned both Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA for the Saturn. I honestly bought the console just for Daytona USA. And, it was a hot mess. 20fps locked, massive pop-in. But it still played great. I spent countless hours playing the first Sega Saturn game. Virtua Fighter 1 was OK for a launch Saturn title. But it still has its own share of buggy visuals and broken single player AI. Sega AM1 developed Virtua Fighter Remix for the console later, which was developed using the Virtua Fighter 2 game engine, and it was even given away by Sega for free under certain mail-in details. Virtua Cop 1 and 2 are great ports for the system.

I had the hots for the saturn early 94. It got a lot of EGM coverage that year. Actually they kept calling VF, Virtua FIGHTERS. For months and months. Even after the home release. I loved VF in the arcades. Loved playing daytona usa. So when i first saw the champagne gold Saturn in EGM, i knew i had to have the system. My launch system cane with VF. Alas it was a rushed port. Lots of graphical glitches. Up until that point i had not seen a professional game product being this glitched. On the bright side it played just like the arcade. And it sounded amazing for a console game. But i really fell in love with the saturn when x-men cota dropped in nov 95. I played that game religiously every day. And like >>7297635
i played the SS port of daytona. Which was not nearly as good as the arcade. The controls felt awful. But it was still fun. Still got my saturn. Currently playing Vampire Savior.
