Based. I have a MODE with a 120GB SSD installed as well. Years ago I moved to another state by the skin of my ass and sold everything (including 99% of my entire physical videogame collection), so this year for my birthday I picked up a Saturn again. The white aesthetic is primo, plus the system (in pristine condition), memory cart, controller, and two games only set me back $100 shipped direct from Japan. I was able to pick up that bundle plus a pre-flashed pseudosaturn cart plus a stack of CDRs for less than the cost of a beat up American Saturn on Ebay. I used that until my MODE arrived.

I also have a Netlink, I picked one up relatively cheap the other day and I think it'll be fun to give online play a shot. I'm currently trying to decide whether I want to build a line simulator or just say fuck it and actually pay $20 a month to get an actual copper landline.

7208028
Remember the time that the bernieposter accidentally let it slip on /adv/ that he hasn't had sex in years? Unfunny meme, unfuckable anon. Classic combo.

>>7209238
Why are you importing games if you have a pseudosaturn cart? The only thing you should be buying is CDRs. I highly recommend anyone with a Saturn get an ODE though. Not only do you get to have all of your games on a single decide choosable from a menu, but you can play all of the best games on the system without paying hundreds of dollars for them, and as a bonus you no longer have to worry about regions either.

Neat. I bought myself a White Saturn and White 3D controller for Christmas. Won't be delivered until early next year, which suck, but what can you do. I've got my MODE, the 3D printed holder from Laser Bear, and external PSU ready to put in that bitch.

Right on. Have you ever owned a Saturn before? There are a couple of recommended games infographics floating around /vr/, but you could always just make a thread when you get it if you're not sure what to play. As for disc images, there are a lot of shitty CDI and ISO rips floating around on the internet, but your best bet is to get your games directly from the Redump set. They are a bunch of gran autismos so the disc images are essentially perfect 1:1 copies. Don't be a doofus and just throw the entire software library on your storage device though, when it comes to an ODE you only want to put games on it that you know that you will want to play, or you are interested in trying. Throwing hundreds of regional duplicates and junk games onto your system will just increase decision paralysis and make it take forever to scroll through your game list to get to a game you actually want to play.

Don't forget to grab a CR-2032 battery (the common "watch battery"), you'll need it to save your games if you didn't order a memory cart (which you should do, they're cheap as shit online).

If you're into 2D Capcom fighters than you'll definitely also want to pick up a 4MB RAM expansion cart. There was also a 1MB expansion cart, but for the most part you can play those games with a 4MB cart without issue (some 1MB games can occasionally have glitched sprites with a 4MB cart, and Metal Slug can have additional slowdown with a 4MB cart, but it's nothing game breaking). When I added my games to my MODE, I added a (1MB) or (4MB) to the end of the title so I could remember which games need what cartridge.

I'd also recommend picking up an S-Video cable if your TV supports it, but keep in mind that sharpening the display image via S-Video can sometimes increase the obviousness of certain mesh based transparency effects in some games (that would otherwise be blurred if you were using composite video).

Congratulations though, you're in for a treat when that thing arrives.

I know but sometimes business are ran in mysterious ways. When you think about it, doing some auto-sabotage might have some rewards. Also the only good thing Saturn Gekka no Yasoku has over PSX SotN is proper loopable music and maybe playable Maria.

And one more thing.

I mean if you're gonna compare console gaming with emulating and having no load times than there's really no reason to play any games on native hardware at all, just emulate them on the gaming PC you already own or play one of the re-releases for modern consoles I guess.

If you're planning on playing shoot 'em ups or fighting games (especially 2D Capcom fighting games) on a retro console however than you basically have to choose between playing gutted versions on the PS1, or games that are either arcade perfect (or practically arcade perfect) on the Saturn.

You could always track down a Neo Geo if you want a literal arcade experience, but Neo Geo fighters run perfectly fine on the Saturn so you would be spending a lot of extra money for no reason.

You can reduce loadtimes on native Saturn hardware with an ODE. The data bus can only transfer data so fast, so you won't see massive decreases like you do with the PS2 and a hard drive with OPL, but you will definitely see a decrease due to not having seek times on an optical drive.

The Saturn version does some weird shit where it duplicates every Xth vertical line (I forget the exact number, I think it's every 6th).

At this point everyone should have played SotN a million times by now and doesn't really need the dialogue translated, but the major upside to translating the Saturn version is having all of the items be in English. This means you don't have to scroll through a hundred different weapons trying to figure out which one is which.

The other major upside is getting to play the full game, with the two major areas that were cut from the PS1 version (technically four areas if you count their upside down versions), and hearing the arranged sountrack.

The downside to playing the Saturn version is the framerate drops, which are caused by the game being rushed on the system and the devs using sloppy code. A version of the game built from the ground up for the Saturn (or at least a competently done port) would run as smooth as butter. We've seen plenty of examples of highly detailed sprite based 2D platformers on the Saturn to know that it's possible.
