Nothing. The title just comes from one developers proposing OXOX (yes no yes no) as a joke title. It got shot down immediately, but they couldn't come up with a better title so they just slightly changed to Xexex to make it less stupid-sounding and went with it.

You know how fighter jets have names like "F-22", bombers have names like "B-17", and whatnot? The basic spacecraft in that series are known as "round cockpit crafts", so they all have designations like "R-19" (so they're collectively known as "R-types"). Later games also have other lines of spacecrafts.
