It not OCD shit, some games honestly expect you to remember a literal maze (image related) layout or a puzzle you saw 20 puzzles ago along with 5 randomly place symbols across the world which is something Myst often did. Let me put it this way, Some of the older GameFAQS notes and guides were made for the creator of it, not for others. They were just kind enough to upload it.

It is understandable if you choose to be a brainlet as games are meant to be fun. So you do you anon but don't assume everyone else have to lower their intelligence for your sake.

Well you can see in the OP image that one of the maps was drawn too high up. You can get larger grid paper, do the same as in this image and just draw different parts of the same floor in different places, or draw a draft and a final copy elsewhere. It is a bit more annoying to navigate a map when it's broken up like that but I was lazy.

Having to break up a map is a minor problem compared to soulless digital mapping applications. If you don't want to redraw maps and find navigation annoying you can always draw on one side of each page and cut+paste different parts together.

grid paper, pencil, eraser, and drawing a few tiles at a time?

I don't draw maps but I write notes as I'm progressing, almost like I'm writing my own walkthrough based on my path through the game. Anytime I try to draw I end up running out of paper space and making some things way too small to see or whatever. Writing notes is much less effort to keep it clean and organized.

Maps were so fucking cool when they came with the game. Especially if the game had a level editor. That shit made me go full turbo autist and draw the map for the world then try to recreate it as a mod. Too bad all those old levels I made are lost to time. Still probably have the maps though. I remember putting a bunch of brown markers in water then putting the paper in to dye it and having it dry in a way that gave it that weathered look. players mapping in games was popularized during the days of text adventures like zork and shit. sometimes you're meant to be thrust in a strange place where you have to find your own bearings on your own and that's part of the experience. ever had a modern game drop you in a dungeon and say something like "it looks like a maze down here"? that doesn't mean time for google, that's telling us boomer fags it's time to grab the pencil and paper.
