Most gg games are inferior ports of genesis games or they’re the exact same as master system games due to the same hardware. Sonic Triple Trouble is worth it alone though

If you already do not like it I would not suggest to get it. Otherwise it depends on your soldering skills or ability to get someone with the skills to do it for you. The PSG sounds are pretty harsh, and most people do not like Sega so it is a portable for very unique tastes. I like the Aleste games, Devilish, and Gunstar Heroes.

it just makes me sad that the master system had that shit 64-color palette compared to GG's 12-bit one. GG games look gorgeous but the low resolution can really hem in gameplay.

And the only reason the battery life was that bad is the backlight, with no efficient LEDs available back then it is some kind of flourescent tube which sucks current like candy. Brightness levels would have been useful but those tubes either work or they don't, not very dimmable. But at least an option to turn it off would have been nice.

The game gear came out too early. If it was released in 2000 it would fare better. The really needed those few years for a better production process for screens and most importantly the hardware getting less power hungry.

I don't know why they didn't take the opportunity to improve the GG sound hardware if they were improving the palette. there's some good music on the thing but you just get tired of hearing channels cut out every time there's a sound effect, and most of the tracks just sound samey after a while with the limited pitch range and lack of control over pulse width. it's the biggest thing that takes away from the otherwise-lush experience it has to offer.
