I have been emulating on my PC for years but thought it would be very nice and convenient to get a dedicate emulation console, I just don't know where to start there is so many.

Are there any that emulate gamecube? That was pretty much where I stopped playing so being able to play melee with friends without dragging my PC into the living room and configuring all the BS would be great.

if no gamecube option is available what would you recommend for me? I would be playing alone a lot but enjoy hosting nude video game nights so something that has up to 4 players for Mario kart and Mario party on n64 is ideal.

Just plug your PC into your TV. And rhen use something like big box have it run at startup and use a controller.
Switch and PS3 have retroarch so those are your best bet. sideloading retroarch via the linux distro or android can have dolphin almost run play on switch.

also maybe a DS emulator as well cuz I'd enjoy playing new pokemans.

>Just plug your PC into your TV
That would require buying an entirely new PC or, like I already said, having to drag it out into my living room and changing settings just for guests and parties.

If there is an emulator console that is cheaper than a brand new computer, why not use that? I don't own a switch or anything.

Well on a super budget a hackable ps3 or og xbox hueg.
But you aren't getting anywhere near GC emulation. But if that's fine go for it.
Also of note xbox one flat out let's you install retro arch if you just buy a dev key for $30 no homebrew necessary. Seit is still king imo for hybrid functionality.

i have no idea what a third of these words are man. To clarify, are you saying there is no emulator console on the market that does gamecube games?

PS3 = a game console
it can be hacked to run emulators. will not run GameCube
Xbox Hueg =orignal xbox, can be hacked to run emulators will not run gamecube
Switch = console. Can be hacked to run emulators. Can run GameCube but not amazing.
Xbox one = console that can run emulators, can boot dolphin but don't think anything is really playable.
retroarch = what is used as a frontend to use emulators on switch, ps3 or xbox.
I also realized an Nvidia shield TV is up your ally and will run dolphin quite well.

So I guess tldr
If super budget just get an of xbox
If you want a bit more get a ps3 and hack
if you want a bit more buy an nvidia shield.
if you want portability as an option buy a switch

meant xbox one. OG xbox obviously doesn't use retroarch.

Okay. So to clarify, literally no emulator console on the market runs gamecube, and the only option other than a PC for that would be getting a switchand having it emulate but its still not great?

Oh also Wii U. You can hack it. Inject roms into all the VCs. then hack the wii portion to get it to play GC games.
So you end up with NES, SNES, GBA, DS, N64 emulation. Then Wii U, Wii and GC hardware support.

shield will run GameCube.
not perfectly I don't think. Maybe the pro does?

Thanks, doing some research on this. A bit more set up then I want, but it looks like it may be the best option for what I want. Though I may just want to buy myself a new PC since Ive had mine for 8 years anyways and just convert this thing to a game box that runs on start up. ill have to sit on this for awhile.

I got an NVIDIA shield pro 2019 for this and I love it. I installed retroarch on it and it plays everything up to and including 4th gen perfectly (use snes9x though). 5th gen mainly works, although n64 requires HLE and glideN64 (parallel won't play well). Mednefen works very well for psx in hardware with dynarec, but some games like Tekken 3 are pretty demanding and I had to turn off framebuffer emulation to run it full speed. Beetle Saturn is broken, but reicast works. The standalone dolphin app is good, but it won't play many GameCube games full speed. The games I had success with are twilight princess, remake and re 4. Forget Wii games.

If GameCube/Wii is a must, there is also the option to add dolphin to steam on your pc and stream it to the shield via steam link. Should work, but I haven't tried it personally.

The Wii and Wii U will both play Gamecube, that's your only console option. Technically not emulation on the Wii as it literally has a Gamecube inside it, but both can be hacked to play off a harddrive.

>>6711021
I'm not too concerned as my interests are limited. For gamecube i mostly just want to be able to play Mario party 4/5 and super smash bros melee. anything else is a bonus. Are those games going to work? SA2 and SADX would be cool too I guess.

Not too interested in other consoles from that era, mostly going to use it for old school sega, nes, snes, and n64.

>> No.6712148

This post is off topic. Answer is get a Wii. Now fuck off. Not retro.

>> No.6712375

>>6711831
Maybe MK will run ok, Smash bros. melee, probably not. Best option would be to stream through steam link, or run natively on a hacked Wii.

Wii might be a little more effort to setup, but not difficult, and it will be cheaper. Just google some videos.

Maybe, It'll be fine. I have a feeling with more than 2 characters and on some stages, the framerate will tank. This is more what I'd expect:

Could be wrong though. Maybe dolphin has some newer settings that can help the game run faster.

oh wow. I should definitely do more research. I can just get an 80 dollar system instead of a 400 one if its just gonna be gross and laggy.
