My parents used to throw away the cardboard box, but kept the manual, so all the boxed games I have have been purchased in the late 00's; mostly rpgs and shoot'em up.

No idea. I have a big box of them but I've always played backups. I know I have a bunch of meme stuff like pokemon and some obscure japanese stuff that was apparently only distributed at events.

I’ve given up buying authentic CIB games and I just buy repro boxes, shits too expensive for some goddamn cardboard. Once I get a nice printer I’ll probably start making my own

The only retro cartridge game I still have CiB is pokemon silver. It's in pretty ratty condition but still presentable to just have out on a shelf. I don't know why I still have the box, I think I guess I just happened to never throw it out.

CiB collecting is pretty silly for the most part. It's pretty nice having something CiB but actually going out of your way to get EVERYTHING complete is just ridiculous to me. I just take it as a nice surprise when I do find something CiB for a decent price (talking about collecting outside of vidya)

Yeah I’ve only really ever bought CIB if I saw it out in the wild and it was a reasonable price; people that sell gen 1 Pokémon games for $200+ are out of their fucking minds, I’d bet my left testicle there are Walmart distribution centers with dusty boxes filled with overstock of them to this day. Same goes for best selling Mario/Zelda/etc. titles

I was looking through storage a while ago and was pleasantly surprised that middle school me held onto the boxes for Zero Misson and Sacred Stones. I've also got Both Golden Suns and Metroid Fusion. So nothing outlandishly impressive but I'm happy with it since they were all purchased at retail or bro prices.

But in the same vein, even if I were not a poverty stricken loser, I still wouldn't pay $5000 for a VGA 90 GRADED POKEMON BLUE game that they sold over 30,000,000 copies worldwide of (and likely produced millions more). That's just pretending to give something value that in all actuality has less value than it had when it originally released.

The thing is that the people who drop that kind of money on sealed/graded games are the kind to whom $5000 is pocket change. These aren't normal, everyday working people. They don't have to think twice about buying a $5000 mint condition sealed Pokemon Blue, they spend that much every week eating out at fancy restaurants. It's a drop in the bucket to them, in much the same way a $20 bill would be to the average person.

I have the flattened boxes for super mario land 2 but it's not IN the box. Probably others like Tetris box and the cart itself, but they were all squished . Glancing, I see Gamegear's Sonic 2 box right next to the other.

Mostly Zelda games. Zelda 1 and 2 (grey cart versions, sadly), the Famicom cart version of Zelda 1, FDS Zelda 2, Japanese LADX. I also have a complete-in-box SNES Jr. ALttP bundle if that counts.

I also have the Super Star Wars trilogy because I'm really nostalgic for those games, and about ten years ago you could get them sealed or CIB for like ten bucks each without even trying.

And a handful of others that I don't care as much about.
