yeah that's the us. Japan has a clean box where the art is the focus of it. Meanwhile america is all about the brand and a bunch of fucking ads. It's pathetic and soulless

TBF The thing I liked the most about the US game is that at least used official promo art by Toriyama himself unlike other games of the time which had terrible box art.

Maybe it was because since it was Toriyama himself designing the characters that's why they went with that. It was the start of the whole anime craze and magazines of the time were hyping this game along with Toriyama.

Akira was the start of the "anime craze" or speed racer or astro boy. Depending on your generation. Generally it's a sign of low IQ and stunted development to assume everyone else only started to like or do something the moment you noticed it existed.

stylistically, the JP cover looks better to me, though the US cover uses art that conveys what the game's about more directly (unless you think it's pokemon and you're playing as the monster on the left of the shot)
though, the art used seems outdated, as fire isn't something that Marle uses in the final game, iirc

Never got why they chose a winter themed artwork. Probably because it got the hero in a action pose. But still odd.

You're unbelievably retarded and coping so hard, considering the same exact "ads" (they're called labels, dipshit), are on the Japanese box, except on the American one they aren't within the art, they're underneath it. So the art objectively has more focus on the America box.

>thinks there isn't a trackable meteoric rise of popularity of a particular subculture just so they can feel smart.

if you think the popularity of Astroboy and Speedracer compared to anything that was out in the time domestically, versus Pokemon since the 90s compared to anything up until MLP, you're daft.

I've seen young Disney animators argue on Twitter that they're the first generation to like anime because naruto was huge.
Every generation thinks they invented liking anime when they grow out of Disney and Bob the builder.

Pokemon was one thing, but I know a threshold was crossed when Gundam toys appeared in a local Walmart in the south. You can actually track popularity along the lines of merchandising availability with more correlation than other means

I actually prefer the US SNES box over the Japanese SFC one for Chrono Trigger. I am in agreement with >>6652169 that there are better artworks made for the game which could be a better cover, I am glad they did include a couple posters of those. I do prefer the plastic caddies which hold the manual and cartridge in Super Famicom games more than the cardboard caddy for the cartridge alone in the US box. The US boxes allowed for larger manuals, but the large black theming of SNES games and whatever ink/paper coating meant my fingerprints are all over them. For Super Famicom instructions were smaller, more came with colored inside pages, while a few US manuals opted for black/white pages inside. This is just based on the few games I got, and it looks like you kept a lot more of your games in much better condition.
