Let's discuss this game

>> No.650049

Give your subject OP, you can't go just "talk about this game, please".

>> No.650065

>>650049
Alright.

I heard this game is notoriously hard to emulate, but the whole faction system of the game intrigues me, what should I know?

>> No.650079

What the fuck, I recently started playing this.

Seems to emulate fine on snes9xgx. I'm liking it so far. Kind of like a mix between Fire Emblem and Advance Wars.

>> No.650124

>>650065
gotta look up a guide for the faction thingy, as its very easy to get locked into one route.

my biggest issue was that the MC's personality does a 180 every time he leaves a side to join another faction, gets worse when getting the "best" ending for the world requires you to betray all three groups and start your own, every time for different reasons, making you sound like Lu Bu, but without the combat skills

>> No.650167

The Genesis version is better in pretty much every single way.
But of course, since it only has one path (the light one), this one wins.
Unless you want to play only the canon path, of course.

>> No.650169

>>650124
The best end is the end that you get to rule the world through fear?
I don't think that you betrays Boser at all, you was never by his side, he just sent Sonia to help you because he wanted the imperials to fall. And even Sonia have enough reasons to go against Boser... She just don't discovers the truth in that path.

Isn't the Genesis version Langrisser I, while Der Langrisser for SNES is Langrisser II?

>> No.650210

>>650190
Der Langrisser is a port/remake of Langrisser II, yes.
Langrisser I is called Warsong here.

>> No.650213

>>650190
Warsong (Genesis) is Langrisser I
Langrisser II (Genesis) is Langrisser II
Der Langrisser (SNES) is Langrisser II

>tfw no Langrisser III translation

We'll never know how it all started, will we?

>> No.650248

>>650167
So what's better about the genesis version?

Does Langrisser II have only one path or is that Warsing you're talking about?

>> No.650285

>>650248
Langrisser II have only one path, though it's way bigger than the same path on Snes.

>> No.650289

You are forced to use the cheat code in order to beat it. Got stuck at a mission where I have to relieve a siege. Enemy forces were all dead except for one measly general. Throwing every ordinary unit at it was useless as the general would just heal himself to full health during his turn. Same deal with spells. Even tried throwing my main characters at them. They all died instantly. Lame.

>> No.650304

>>650223
Uh... All those characters are descendants of light. Was Boser a descendant of light too?

>> No.650302

>>650289
I beat it 100% legit, no save states, no cheat codes, on the hardest path (indep).
You just need to get good.

>> No.650317

>>650248
I played both SNES and GEN versions and can say the GEN has prettier graphics, sprites, the gameplay feels more fluid and it's just all around more entertaining.
For one interested in completion, I'd recommend playing all paths of the SNES version, and then beat the Light one on the Genesis.

>> No.650336

>>650302
In the first game (Warsong on the genesis system), I managed to play to the final stage without cheats. But same problem, the enemies all have a sudden huge jump in their levels. It's ridiculous. There's no real strategy in these games at all.

I gave up on the whole series. Not going to be playing any of the games again.

>> No.650338

>>650317
Or just play the light path in both versions, since even the light path have 4 sub-paths on Snes, and you don't get to face Chaos on GEN.

>> No.650359

Oh look, Langrisser.

Just another classic series who are being fucked up by modern gaming.

Why do I say this? Langrisser Schwartz.

>> No.650362

>>650336
Hue, I had that problem in the past, had to give up and play the game all over again to train properly my characters. But you can just use the in-game code to select the level and grind a bit.

>> No.650391

>>650065
It's not really hard to emulate. I think it works fine on everything but zsnes.

>>650065
Four paths, depending on your choices and who you kill in battle. For your first playthrough just go with your heart. Check a guide afterwards to see how to choose. Independent route is the best.

>>650079
>Kind of like a mix between Fire Emblem and Advance Wars.
That describes it perfectly.

>>650167
Der Langrisser for story, Langrisser II for gameplay and music. I prefer Langrisser II, overall.

>>650289
>>650336
Sounds like you're just bad.

By the way, Langisser IV is translated on the PSX. The story is an amalgamation of just about every anime cliche ever, but the gameplay is enjoyable (the PSX version actually uses Langrisser V's gameplay. I've heard the Saturn version is superior, but I don't speak moon). There are three routes in that game, too.

Weird, Der Langrisser works on Zsnes for me, it actually don't works on Snes 9x, actually, the music don't works properly.
Already tried different versions and all sound options, in fact, the most recent version of Snes 9x only made it even worse.

>> No.650438

>>650418
You were probably using an outdated version of snes9x or something.
snes9x GIT is where it's at.

Have you played the first game and der langrisser without any using cheats then?

That's some nice pixel art. Well, until Hein, that is.

>> No.650483

You who finished both games, am I doing something wrong or the mages are kinda useless in Der Langrisser? It looks like every enemy is imune to magic after half of the game, and they can only recruit 3 units on Snes, yet a bunch of walkthroughs recomends them. What am I missing?

>> No.650498

>>650457
I think it was the 4th stage of Der Langrisser that I got stuck it. It defeats the purpose of choosing how you want to level your characters if such decisions are so critical.

The unlimited healing was the mechanic was the main thing that ruined the game for me. It makes every non-hero unit useless, even as cannon fodder.

>> No.650515

>>650483
Try using the 'decline' spell before casting your other spells. Also use things like attack2. And I think 'sleep' and 'zone' are really good in one game, though I don't remember which.

Mages are extremely powerful.
Yes, they have shit troops, but they're also utterly indispensible for their utility and ability to soften up large numbers of troops.
>>650498
I don't want to sound like a dick but if you're stuck at stage 4 you're just not trying very hard.

>> No.650681

IMO, there's clearly something wrong with the game when my whole army couldn't even take on one unit, the only one remaining in the stage.

Horsemen > foot soldiers > pikemen > horsemen.

You ought to hire horsemen in this case. Or maybe Erwin can take him, depending on your responses to the quiz and your levels.

I really don't get this at all. They look pretty decent, just a bit different. Maybe I'm missing something here, or maybe it's just cause I had an SNES growing up.

There are tons of secrets in these games. After you've played through once, check a guide to see all the hidden items and secret scenerios.

The Cho Aniki cameos are the gayest things I've ever seen. In a good way.
