Why is Assassin below Druid when Trapsins and Kick/Trap hybrids are some of the safest, most versatile and most self-reliant HC characters in the game?
I don't get this ranking at all. Why is Paladin only rank 2 because of Maggot Lair and other tight dungeons, but Barbarian's notoriously slow early game and usually reliance on finding weapons doesn't even make for a blip on the radar? Why is "boring to play because skeles" even a factor when Corpse Explosion also enables Bone builds?
Is this ranking characters based on being fun to play? Ability to magic find? (Certainly not, because Trapsins are at least a safe MFer and cowrunner, whereas Druids don't really have any sort of MFing niche). Ability to beat the game hardcore safely? There's no context.

How's Double Swing?
Never used it much.
Thinking of respeccing for Duriel.

I was thinking of going either Concentrate or Double Swing, and then buff either of them with Bash.
Then I thought maybe 6 points in double swing because it costs 0.?? mana at that point, but I don't know.
By now I'm pretty sure I'll be using swords for Duriel so I think mastery is probably the better option, so thought I'd go 6 points into Double Swing and the rest in swords mastery, but the free double swing might not be worth it.

bullshit. Trap kicksin is a baller char, with 2 insanely OP crowd control skills - cloak, and mind blast, and kicks stack up very well with CB.
Riftsin is a top tier ladder build (or if you use plugy), otherwise just get a beast, or even black, and have 100% CB with g-face and goblin.

And LF javazon just obliterates anything not lightning immune. Plague/Fury and only PL double immunes are any concern. Can't solo ubers, but great at farming cows, cause king is LI by default, so you don't have to worry about accidentaly popping him.

For barb, why not try a singer? A bit less mainstream than pitzerker, and throwbarb requires two specific weapons to function properly, which is very luck dependent if you want to make one.

They're all about using Zeal with one of the elemental holy auras.
Auras like Holy Freeze give a pulse aoe damage in intervals, but they also give a massive bonus to your attack, so they mix well with fast attacks like zeal.

Holy Fire falls off later in comparison to the others, but you can use it early on.
Could go Fire Zealot and then respec to Shock/Frost.

Late game you could double up on Freeze+Shock through a runeword, Dream in helm and shield would give you a level 30 Holy Shock Aura when equipped, which is buffed from your synergies.
But I think the more popular way to do it is to get Conviction on yourself and Dream x2.
Could give Conviction to the merc, but then you'd be relying on it.

The Amazon's Charged Strike seem bad on paper, because the skill leading to it(Power Strike) is a bad skill. But then you get Charge Strike, and it turns out that:

Just read briefly that some guy switched from Fanatacism in nightmare to holy freeze and his damage doubled, but maybe his weapon was really shitty.

In terms of multiplayer farming autism where you have absurdly powerful gear:

These characters are objectively the best at everything. They cover every single possible farming niche in the game.
>OKAY TIER: assassin, druid, necromancer
They are decent at some things and are very gear independent.

Slowest cast speed means you are garbage. The amazon has the slowest cast speed. Simple as.

In terms of singleplayer hardcore single passes:
>GOD TIER: necromancer
Completely trivial to win with, you can do it with no equipment. Your curses and walls and summons guarantee that any difficult fight becomes effortless.
>EZ TIER: assassin, druid
The assassin has screenwide dim vision, free resistances and can shoot things from offscreen. The druid has a billion life and can't die, especially if you are mad enough to play a shockwave druid.
>BORING AS FUCK BUT EZ: barbarian
Warcry is overpowered but slow and boring. You can't die unless you fall asleep while playing.
>NORMAL MODE: paladin
You can actually die since you have almost no support skills. Having a lot of free resistance and block helps, but you have essentially zero non-melee skills making death a possibility.
>HARD MODE: sorceress
Unlike the other characters, you can die very easily. You have no real support skills outside of teleport, which will usually end up killing you instead due to poor usage.

In terms of fun in a regular softcore playthrough:
>FUN TIER: sorceress, assassin
Being able to teleport is fun. Being able to do any playstyle, or a mix of them, is fun.
>KIND OF FUN TIER: necromancer, paladin
Necromancer can get away with everything but is slowish, and the paladin being forced into melee makes things exciting.

They have only one decent build and it is boring.

You quest bug Duriel which makes him have some of the best drops in the game (quest bugged Duriel has higher drop rates than non-quest Mephisto, who you can't permanently quest bug), then roll a map where the staff room spawns right next to the entrance. You can bug it in multiplayer too (or arguably only multiplayer since you need two characters), but it is pretty much useless unless you maphack. Basically, you should have your non-quest finished character activate the Staff, then sit in town while another character kills Duriel. After Duriel is dead, have the non-quest finished haracter go and complete the rest of the quest as normal. This works since Diablo 2 quests are boolean, which is why killing Andariel (questcompletion=1) then talking to anyone in town (questcompletion=0) bugs it. You can't do this with Mephisto, Diablo or Baal either since they only trigger once, after you kill the given boss.

Generally you're looking for (at a minimum) 2 to class skills and 20 fcr You can always hold onto rare circlets/tiaras/diadems and reroll them into something better with 6 perfect skulls. In w10, simply make another account, then switch to it without signing out. That's also an easy way to transfer stuff between your characters if you don't use mods.

Duriel is kinda too far into the game to be a mirror for the butcher.
I'd say the closest thing D2 has to The butcher, is actually Treebranch, who guards the Inifuss tree.

Then there's the blacksmith, but by the time you get to him, he's a total pushover, despite being the most similar to the butcher visually. Treebranch meets the criteria far better, being the first serious opponent, that can catch new players offguard.

A similar thing i can think of is in very early world of warcraft where gear meant for healers would have agility and strength. Mostly. Having a chance to loot unique monsters twice means you are essentially doing half an extra run for every run you do which is massive. Barbarians also have Berserk, which allows you to one hit almost anything since it deals a zillion magic damage, and Barbarians cast as fast as a sorceress, allowing you to teleport around stupidly fast. You also get the highest magic find/gold find since you can dual wield weapons, which is really good since you can easily swap weapons when you are using Find Item, then swap back to your beating stick.

Put ~10 points into find item, then bump it to around 17 with +skills, and it has 49% chance to drop an item, just as if you had just killed the monster.

Combine that with the fact that the pit is a level 85 area, where every champion, and boss pack has a chance to drop TC87 items, and from half of them (6-8 packs on level 1, 2-3 packs on level 2 of the pit), that's like 4-5 extra drops per run.
And being act 1 with really easy monsters, a good berserk barb will drop most champions in 1 or 2 swings (with laying of hands doing a massive 350% extra damage to 3/4 of the monsters there).
Stupid fast teleport (8 frames with 105% fcr, which is 2 wiz spikes + 5% fcr amu, or arachnid mesh). Stack 400+ MF, and still instagib everything in there.

High resists to magic and fire are a must. Another thing that helps is pro footwork and scouting out enemies by firing arrows beyond the limit of your screen, so that you pull as few enemies as possible. Idk what bow are you using, but a decent Bow of Swiftness helps with stunlocking enemies (though isn't strictly necessary either). Generally you have to take on those rooms piecemeal and use some spells. Any character should have:

depends. It's a slog till you reach level 30, but once you hit 30, you can have 20+ points in your synergies already, and berserk hits really hard. Also, you have crowd control in the form of howl, so it's not that bad.

I didn't start making a pitzerker until I had most of the gear lined up already, so that was a big help.

I don't think you need to convert the whole class into mace user. In fact leave everything as is. Just replace berserk or concentration with the ability or create a Mace Specialization ability that unlocks at level 30. It's called Ground Slam, synergizes with shout cause the abiliity takes some breath. Works with 2h maces and dual wield maces but not with a 1h mace. You can actually include 2h staves I guess that works with the idea. Another thing is the whirlwind, I don't think that ability works too good in the original. When you whirlwind it hits single targets on every tick of the spin rather than everyone around the AoE. Is it an engine limitation or did blizz balanced it that way, I'm not sure.

Here is the first version of the mod. It ended up pretty basic since almost everything didn't work at all.

I spent six hours experimenting with dual-wielding to try to get it to behave, and the only semi-effective way ended up requiring me to add new stats to the used weapons, which means I would have to add this new stat to every single weapon in the entire game, which I will not do.

I'll also work on any other mod ideas anons have, as long as it doesn't involve dual-wielding.

Seriously. You only lose 40 points total from your synergies, and since lightning fury only gets 1% extra damage per point in synergy skills, you don't gimp yourself, but plague javelin does crazy damage.

Get yourself a bramble (ral ohm sur eth) on top of that, and you can easily hit 80k+ plague javs. Plus - it's easier on the mana, and the fact that it takes longer to kill doesn't really matter that much, since you only need 1 cast, and then you can do your thing while the enemy drops dead.

as you can see, there's a bit of a difference between plague jav, and lightning fury.

Granted - I had to drop two synergy skills to max plague javelin, and poison jav (for synergy), but LF only gets +1% damage for synergy skills, so i'm doing 40% extra instead of 80% extra, which accounts for about 25% damage reduction for LF. And this is with stormshield - i also have a moser's with two lightning facets, and If I had a griffon, I could boost it even higher.

Also - the low damage for LF compared to plague javelin is very deceptive, because of how it stacks with piercing attacks, and the fact that plague jav does it's damage over 16 seconds (do note, I have +20 to jav skills: 12 from gear, and 8 in charms).

Still, my plague javelin kills storm casters in Chaos Sanctuary in one hit.

As for Enigma - amazon has such slow casting speed, that you're better off with increased running speed - teleport is only really useful for bypassing obstacles.
The biggest downside is losing about half of your charged strike damage, but that is mainly used for killing bosses, and with regular monsters, the impact of that isn't really felt.

Early 3D was a trashfire of questionable solutions. Most hardware where unable to display more than very square polygons. Or where unable to render texture with more sharpness than just using vertex colors + Gouraud.
Even for late playstation games they ended up completely leaving shading behind for high res textures with pre baked shading, and that still has a lot of buffer/render issues.

The only real mistake they made is that 640x480 is too small. 800x600 improves play area, but its till slightly too small for play area.
They should have settled for XGA or 1280x960 with slightly larger sprites, as a high res mode.

But that leaves a important question: I assume the article is from 1990s.
Which means you still have a lot of people being into the hype, despite full 3D games being unable to deliver outside of first party.

yeah, 50 is a godroll, but anything above 40% is really good. I use 3/20 gloves, both for LF, and because they give more damage, than trangs 25%, but that's with a 50% roll bramble equipped.

I get 40% frw from aldur's boots (along with fire res), and you can get more from the amu (though i'm actually using a safety amulet, to hit 75% block with stormshield), and you get resistances from bramble as well.

Either way - the combination of LF and plague javelin eats through anything. Only those effing burning souls that have double immunity piss me off, and I have to rely on jab+merc to kill them.

Surprisingly, resurrect does actually work on minions, but only if you do some really weird shit with their monster settings. The results are kind of crappy though, the "resurrected" fallens still follow you around and are allied, but they have no inherent limit and lose all the passive stats they have. It is also super abusable since you can commit genocide against your own summons and mass up a gigantic, limitless army from their corpses. I don't think a fallen shaman is the best choice for a player character, unless you want to be a fairly generic, non-resurrecting summoner. What other monsters would you want to play as?

Quickest way to get skeles is to take anya's portal in act v, and boom theres your skeles right there. If you activate the waypoint on the way to nilathek you lose the portal though and no longer have access to quick skeles. Been farming nm on my wind druid for a week now, single player hardcore and I'm not finding any items at all to help me in hell. What do bros. You should be able to wreck hell very easily as a druid thanks to your infinite life. As long as you have Treachery or otherwise maxed resistances then you should be good to go.

How the hell are you going to get one shot as a druid? You should have at least 2k life and your mercenary (who also has a shitload of life) buffering a lot of the damage. If you cap out your resistances, then the only threats should be aura enchanted stacks (which are incredibly obvious and avoidable), goat lords and pit vipers.

Ladder resets have taught me that trash gear is fine if you have necromancer/druid summons tanking, multiple auras, war cries, and magic AOE spam.

PlugY is the way to go imo, it just gets rid of the hastle of muling and has nice QOL features. Also has ladder runewords and diablo clone/pandemonium event added. The major complaints people have for it is that it doesnt work on the newest patch of diablo 2. Also Uber Tristram isn't properly coded and the Ubers don't spawn minions but I think its the only way to experience pandemonium event in single player. Other complaint I hear a lot is that theres free respecs at any time, so in hell you can just keep respeccing every time theres a hard part. I simply just stick to 1 respec ea difficulty and don't abuse this so I see no problem with it.

You can have your official copy with the newest version, and plugy. I use that 1.13c on Plugy but I still use the official copy to go on bnet to play ladder.
