Probably some popular youtuber played it recently. Same thing happened with Castlevania Chronicles on PS1, normally a $70~$90 went up to ~$130 for a couple months but went back down again. Any time a youtuber plays a game, that game shoots up in price for a few months because the viewer base who are rabid consoomers start buying en masse and are willing to pay stupid prices. Sellers know this and strike while the iron is hot. When pewds played Pepsi Man on PS1 that game shot up to $300, now it’s back to being a $60 game again because the hipster flavor of the month viewers have moved on to the next thing their content creator of choice is playing.

adding words like this to your search inquiry will guarantee you will see scalper sharks, this is like looking for a CRT but typing in “retro gaming CRT” into search. Your results will be a bunch of scumbags trying to sell their shitty 11 inch screen crapbox for $90.

Where as if you had just typed old tv, you’ll get a bunch of Trinitron sets with component and s video inputs for cheap to free because it’s some old lady or person who has no idea what they have who just wants the big heavy 25 inch beast gone.

There are plenty of copies of Doom 64 available for $30-$40, so $80 is completely ridiculous. That being said, I bought my copy for $5 from a thrift shop years ago, and never really played it. Maybe I should consider selling it.

My personal favourites are the ones who list games that still have the pawn shop / thrift store stickers on them. Recently I came across someone selling a copy of Goemon for the N64 for $80, and included a photo of the back where there was a sticker that clearly read:
>Rick's Pawn

See pic related. It's beginning to infect non-/vr/ games too. For the record, this is more than I paid for a brand new copy of Wind Waker PLUS the console in 2008 ($19.99 for used Gamecube from GameStop, Wind Waker was $14.99 on clearance from Best Buy)

>>6330818
This is completely fucked. My friend's dad (richfag) collects 2,000 year old Roman coins, and I don't think the most expensive coin in his collection was as much as this thing. And that includes fucking gold coins that sat in the dirt for two millenia, not optical discs that will rot in a matter of decades.

>>6330994
It's kind of humorous to see how the Jaguar has suddenly become this rare collector's item. When I was a kid we regarded it as a joke. One of my friends at the time had one that his uncle bought on clearance, and we all teased him for having the "super answering machine system". They were rare but really cheap because nobody wanted them. This guy wrote a console review sometime around 2006 or so, and seems to reference the relatively inexpensive hardware: https://videogamecritic.com/jaguarinfo.htm

I also once sold someone a copy of Final Fantasy III for $20 after finding not one but two of them in a pawn shop.

Not sure what happened to those threads, but I think part of the problem was they sort of became buy/buy/buy and people were less willing to let go of good stuff.

I doubt prices drop that much, maybe a 50% cut at most for some things over the years but prices won't drop back down to early 2000's levels until people truly stop caring about this stuff and most of us are dead. They're the equivalent of dream cars for boomers, and most that want to collect stuff are pushing 40 at the oldest and aren't waiting for retirement to try to get their hands on it. I don't think the volume is there to support businesses but value is sentimental with next to no maintenance, and it's easy to find space for a $200 cartridge so most will be content to sit on them outside of some occasional movement.
