So, I have to know. Are there any GOOD LCD handheld games? I remember they were always what grandmas would give grandkids they didn't care enough about to spend more than $10 for, and kids always hated them. But are they really as bad as everyone remembers? Cause honestly, the infamous art style of the games look rad and the idea of just whipping out one of these and playing for a minute or two while you take a shit also seems pretty rad

These were okay for bus rides, or waiting for the food to arrive when at a restaurant.
They also doubled as a way to gift famous licensed properties without spending $60 (1991 money) on the actual game. I think in retrospect they're kind of junky but given the circumstances they can be pretty rad.

Most LCD games were utter shit. I know it's all the rage now for zoomers to nostalge over tacky old shit but I just can't fall for the meme. What were actually decent were brick games, which people seem to hate, probably because they were actually good.

Not really, I received a couple myself and I enjoyed them both, and whenever a kid brought his to school or to a birthday party or whatever, everyone else always wanted to play them.

It's easier to shit on them now from the perspective of a cynical adult, but they were fun for kids of a certain age. I owned real consoles as well as a GameBoy and I still appreciated them as a cool novelty.

When there was no access to most things we have now, on a school trip out in which you were on a bus for a few hours, which seems years for a kid and with nothing else to do, they were great.

They cost more than $10 too.

OG Nintendo Game&Watch units were kino, never played a bad one; Had a Thai friend who collected them and they there the best.
Beyond that, the better option would be the older VFD-based handhelds, they were a little bigger, but had good gameplay. I had a Galaxian, Defender, and a couple others; Color Vacuum Fluorescent Displays were expensive, so some thought was put into Gameplay; I also had a TOMY Blip (Mechanical Pong clone) that was pretty fun!

yeah pretty much all "collectable" things are worthless. It's just a marketing plot to sell them. There are a tiny percent of actual things worth something but like beanie babies, mcdonalds, star wars or whatever they are mass protruded and worth nothing.

Perhaps in 100 years like all things. Even again 100+ year old antiques are rarely worth more than a few dollars. I used to collect shit but it's just hoarding junk.
