Is Nadia's game any good?

>> No.6137563

Anime games are usually bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. If you want some Nadia, play SRW X. It's on PC.

Weren't they a kind of strategy RPG? I only vaguely even knew they existed.

If you want some Nadia, play Grandia. Literally the same plot. Same as about a dozen other JRPGs, too.

The PC-98 game isn't half bad.

The Nadia NES game is an SRPG. The Mega Drive Nadia game is more like a JRPG with no random encounters. You just walk around talking to npcs, looking for items.

The genesis game is very fun since is a completely rearranged story, you will not regret playing it, excellent presentation and some people even argue that the story is even better than the series, the ending was particuarly impressive, and im not sure if theres another genesis game with a narrative so succsesful as this, a pity the writer apparently didnt do much else after this.
Some surces say the story is based on the original plot proposed for the series, but never got any real confirmation of this and the only thing that clicks is that is more grim in the same way Anno originally intended to end the series

Then theres the pc-98,sharp and fm-towns game which its pretty cool but I havent played it all the way since I have problems with audio playback because of the weird way they setup channels.

the pc enfine game looked allright, and then the ps2 game really dissapointed me, it was a lot more basic than what I expected and doesnt even tell the story in any depth, Its just an excuse to have the bland OC show up with the typical by the numbers plot

It's worth playing if you're a fan of Nadia for the story and the presentation. If you aren't familiar with Nadia, you can still play the game and maybe you will be engaged in the story, but yeah this game is mostly that, story.
The actual game looks like an RPG, except it's not an RPG, more like an adventure game, where you pick up items and use them to proceed in the story. There's only a handful of actual puzzles, some of them can kill you, but that's the only time in the game you can actually get a game over, otherwise, there is no battles or no way to lose, really.
Also the game over lets you start from the same level you were in, so it's not punishing.
I had a good time playing the game, although it managed to annoy me slightly while playing, because you can't pick up items you find until it's the right time to use them, meaning you might see something you need inside some locker, and then when you finally need it, you have to backtrack and find that one particular locker, through many rooms with many lockers.
But, nothing too bad, it's still a short game so I guess it was intentional to pad the game a bit.
So, is it a good game? As a game it's just an OK adventure game, certainly playable, extremely simple and sometimes a bit annoying, but it can be tolerated in virtue of the charm of the game and again, the story, which is the main thing.
It's especially recommended for fans of Nadia because, as anon above said, it's an alternate story, it starts the same as the anime, but it quickly branches out. Some things are still similar to the series, but a lot of things, including the ending, are completely different.
It has a lot of neat cutscenes, both in-game, and as sprite-based cinema displays.

i tried playing the Genesis and NES versions, couldn't make heads or tails of either. NES seemed like an Archon-type game. Genesis...RPG?

Sounds cool. I am hoping the cutscenes features large sprite portraits like that of Ninja Gaiden or the many TurboDuo CD games. Nadia was the cutest character around in her day.
