Anybody got a favorite alt version of a game even if it's not the best? I played Yakuza 0 for the first time and even though it's not retro you can play an emulated arcade version of Outrun. It's a pretty decent version (and you need a good high score as part of a few side quests) but honestly I've always preferred the Genesis version of the game, especially the rendition of the music in that port.

Marios Bros on the Atari 7800 for me is the best version. I find it less slippery, and easier to control compared to other versions.

Split-screen co-op does a lot. I also like the 3D environment.

I love SC2000 a lot, and find the Saturn version pretty cool. Its clunky and slow, but I really like the addition of how the zones have different designs depending on the year in game.

Life Force (NES)
Shinobi (Master System)
Super Hang-On (Genesis)
Vampire Savior EX (PlayStation)
Donkey Kong (NES)

None of them are better than the original arcade games, but they bring me very good memories from my childhood.

I found some Capcom games like Ghouls'n Ghosts, MERCS, Mega Twins or Strider to be more fun to play in their Mega Drive ports. Better sound too.

i love the genesis version of outrun.

probably my pick too.

obviously the nes version of punch out blows away the arcade version but you said not the best. hm...

I played a lot of arcade classics outrun and space harrier on the GBA collection.
Very comfy way to play on a GBA SP.
I always play Tetris DX on the GBC too. Just a really solid version of Tetris.

some sega ports are better on pc engine

afterburner ii (not counting 32x)
puyo puyo 1 (2 is worse on pce)
wonderboy iii monster lair
wonderboy iii dragon trap (60 fps, no flicker, battery saves)
fantasy zone
bonanza bros

pc engine outrun isn't as good as the genesis version but it's still a great time

some well known genesis games better on pc engine include Truxton, Twin Cobra, Cadash, Valis III
