Having played every one of those games, I gotta say, that's a pretty solid line-up.
Also, each of those games cost the modern equivalent of $100, with the N64 itself costing the equivalent of $330. Most parents aren't going to drop $430 in September, plus $100 for each additional game (plus you had to buy a memory card and extra controller), especially with Christmas not long off. Launching it earlier with a few games got it in the stores where kids could try it out and get hyped.

Well, everyone knows the N64 was overall, a truly dogshit system with a few sparkling gems in it's catalog. It's not worth delving into the how and why since this is well understood by now.

Since the N64 was aimed at and preferred by small children, one has to consider that kids will play the same thing or watch the same movie a million fucking times and not get bored of it.

I had a gameboy pocket that may as well have had Pokemon Red fused into the cart slot for how often I ever wanted to or did play anything else. Mario 64 was a game that many kids spent months on and was no doubt in the rotation for years in many households.

I had some cousins with only a PAL Sega Saturn, then a Nintendo 64. Even my 8 yo self could tell how fucking miserable they were whenever they tried to show off what games they had. They replayed them so many times they grew sick of them.
The library situation was dire, even in their twilight years, and even with import solutions.

PlayStation owners didn't have to replay the same game for months and piracy was a thing for "kids who only could afford one or two games for Christmas a year". Even a kid trying the same thing with a PS1 demo disc of select levels from 3 different games had a better time than a kid surviving for months off one single game from arcade experiences like NiGHTs, Pilotwings and F-Zero that could be finished fairly quickly.

As a kid it took me weeks to beat some games compared to nowadays where i tend to beat a game in 2-3 days, I'm sure you can beat Mario 64 in one sitting but back then it took me days just to get 70 stars.

I've had N64 fanboys argue with me that games like Final Fantasy VII and Spyro were on the N64 and that the PS1 had no good 3D games. Yes, they were dead serious.

In other words the fanboys who have blinders on to every other platform of that generation. If it's not on the N64, they don't care.

The Mega Drive in Japan had a rough start. Four launch titles, Space Harrier 2, Super Thunder Blade, Altered Beast, and Osomatsu-kun: Hachamecha Gekijō. They had to wait two years before Sonic came along, with the Genesis we only had to wait 7-8 months.

PC-Engine launched with two titles in Japan. One was a reskinned version of Wonder Boy In Monster Land, the other was a mahjong game. A month later, they got China Warrior and J.J. and Jeff. A month later they had Victory Run.

Raiden Project (2d)
The rest are forgettable garbage. The above titles are all legit good, but better experiences could still be found in an arcade (fighting/racing) and all lack any real bang for buck. Pilot Wings, Mario 64 and even Star Wars were new experiences and nothing like them could be found elsewhere at the time.

And that's how I know you're a dumb underage LARPer. Nearly no one had a fucking CD burner in the 90's. You know what a 6X burner cost back in 1999? Nearly $300. Barely anyone had the internet either, so you couldn't just hop online and find a mod chip. "Normies" were not burning pirated copies in the 90's. Only the most hardcore of the hardcore were. CD burning didn't become big until the mid 2000's when everyone had high speed internet and was downloading MP3's and wanted to make their own music CDs. Hell, my uncle was a hardcore techie, and I didn't get a modchip or burnt games until around 2004.

What you are talking about is a phenomenon that didn't start until after 2000. Which you would have known, if you were actually alive back then.

Mortal Kombat 4 is also a good example, it's actually a great port and a pretty decent game on the N64, but totally sucked on PS and DC.

I'm from Argentina (so yeah, close to Brazil), but I got my Playstation in 1996, and it was already modchipped, and in fact, finding original PS games was literally impossible here, it was all bootlegs. They all came from China/Taiwan.
My old playstation is actually a japanese model, it has the old playstation pad without the analogs and it's smaller than the american/european pad. Pic related.
I didn't start seeing original PS1 games until the 2000s, when a chain store called CD Market started selling them for some reason.

It's fucking sick and it has boob jiggle. Lots of the typical Rare sillyness and easter eggs, and fun combat/weapons. I liked it vastly more than DK64, if that helps. You unlock a co-op mode pretty early in the game, in case you have someone to play with.
