Why do people say that Super Mario Land 2 is such a huge improvement over the original?

>> No.5966938

Nobody ever said that

>> No.5966940

people just thought that the 2nd one did a better job at world building as opposed to the 1st where, without reading the manual or researching, you get plopped into a very strange world and you dive right in

>> No.5966967

Because it looks more like the console games. But both control like garbage.

>> No.5966971

The original needed improvement?
I see SML2 more as a whole different thing, bigger in scope though, that's for sure.

it had nice music on the boss level in space world!
probably the best mario music ever and it's such a sadness that it will never be remixed in another mario game:(

The jumping physics and air control feel a lot closer to super mario bros 3. Mario land 1 had just about the stiffest controls of any mario game.

The level design is just incredible. Like they didn't give a single fuck about anything and Just let their creativity and vision flow.

Because it is. Better physics, more and better powerups, a comparable if not better soundtrack (blasphemy, I know), and more stages. From control to replay value to graphics there is not one thing that Super Mario Land 2 does not do better than Super Mario Land. As incredible as the original may be, it is only the nostalgia blinded who played the original when it first came out and retardedly did not buy the sequel because, I don't know, they weren't playing their GBs as much by '92, who insist that it is superior.

There isn’t a single aspect about it that’s worse than the original. Graphics, sound, gameplay, plot is all better. I don’t understand how you could even ask. This is one case where it’s just indisputable that the sequel was better.

>>5967221
Of course they didn't give a fuck. The R&D1 team outright hated making this game.

>> No.5967341

Because it's near console quality, unlike the original. People only like Mario Land 1 because of nostalgia.

Because it actually looks, feels, and plays like a Mario game, unlike Mario Land 1. It's also just a great game and it gave us Wario

Nintendo did such amazing work on the GameBoy the next game, Wario Land, was even better and an incredible experience at the time, these games should have been colored and ported over but keeping everything the same.

Warioland was the best. Too bad its sequels sucked.

The usual reasons that the general consensus tends to prefer one game over another game:

>better graphics
>lower difficulty
>"more content"

I don't think that they're wrong, mind you, in saying Mario Land 2 is superior. I'm simply explaining why people say that games are better than other games for the most part. This is also the main basis behind the "old bad new good" mentality, though increasingly point 3 is less and less true.

VB Wario Land should be colored as well, what a great game on such a trash system.

>> No.5969160

>>5969148
They would be better off remaking it, and at that point they'd be better off making a new game, vb Wario is too fuckin short to sell full-price, but the original isn't enough to justify making an entire official VB emulator for 3DS either, especially since a number of good vb games would be gimped on a 3ds input set.

Basically, making "fake Mario games" was considered an insult to R&D1's talents, but it's what Yamauchi wanted and so they had to make them.

I wish the whole game had the challenge of Wario's Castle. I completely understand that the game was for a younger audience, but 90% of it is way too easy and it's possible to casually beat the game in around an hour.

Super Mario Land was very different from the NES games. The fire flower looking power-up gave you super balls that ricocheted around until they hit something or expired, and you could only have one on screen at a time. The Koopa Troopa looking enemies left behind a bomb rather than a kickable shell when stomped. Unless you played Super Mario World before this game, you probably weren't prepared for enemies that took two stomps to die. It simply took time to get used to the differences, time that some people weren't willing to invest.

Because it's an undeniable graphical improvement, and to tiny-brains graphics are the most important aspect of a game.

Doesn't have to scroll vertically. Kind of takes the whole picture you'd see on an NES Mario game, and converts it to the smaller screen.
