SR is currently licensed by Role & Roll in Japan.
Group SNE is still around, Compile's rights might have transferred to Compile Heart.
There were some translation attempts but they never got beyond mockup screens and buggy monospaced text replacement. Nobody does Mega CD translations either.

If you're using magic, do not use cyberware. For a samurai or decker, it's better to add cyberware before leveling up that stat, as you can get higher ceilings for those traits.
Cyberspace data stores have information you can sell for a lot of money, but matrix running is a bit tough and tar pits can fuck you out of a lot of money.

ACTUALLY(and i've tested this out) Spurs + STR enhancement + COMBAT SENSE SPELL LOCK would make you best melee fighter in the game. Shaman get best of both worlds if they go melee.

Unfortunately the AI is dumb if you're not manually controlling that character. AI controlled mage or shaman will ALWAYS use spells even if you get them spurs or a gun.

Play however you like, but for the endgame you will be fighting a variety of enemies especially well-armored ones. Magic and Melee damage and penetrate the armor the best, though they're some enemies who seem to be totally immune to magic. Shotguns are best overall, but they make a lot of noise(bad for corporate missons where you're suppose to avoid raising the alarm), and the cops consider them most of them illegal.

Hellhounds are easy to kill but have a nasty flame breath and usually attack in groups, so it's best to have someone skilled in SMGs to kill them fast before they burn you.

I only played the first one, but I didn't feel this way. I mean sure, when it came to world building it was great as a Shadowrun story, but the gameplay was extremely railroaded. Shadowrunning isn't about that.

>> No.5935889

Neuromancer is very good, but it isn't Shadowrun. Shadowrun is half cyberpunk, half magic, with the metaplot being EXTREMELY focused on the magic side of things. I know a lot of the fanbase tends to downplay that, but with a Gibson novel you're only getting half of Shadowrun.

I never finished Phantasy Star IV (only played like 10 hours or so) but I think it's a 50-50 on your question. The story is decent enough as a standalone (and is set many years apart from the previous Phantasy Stars), but there are callbacks and references to the old games that you'd miss if you skipped PS I-III. While you could (and many anons have) enjoyed PSIV on its own, ultimately it's better if you played in order.

But there's a SEGA AGES release for Switch that supposedly is really good and has an option for boosted XP to reduce grind. 2 and 4 are considered fan favourites, and these two are the common answers to "What's your favourite classic Phantasy Star?". 3 is kind of a black sheep and is rarely people's favourite but is still decent.
