I do have a sound system though. Mainly because the PVM I use has shit-tier mono sound out a tiny front speaker, and the 32" trinitron I have next to it has speakers that don't work anyway. Funny thread... in all seriousness I actually tried this idea once. I wanted to see how it would sound for shits and giggles so after I got it hooked up and I turned on my SNES, it sent a really loud series of POPS to my speakers. Felt like something was going to break. Also it almost killed my amplifier, I think. It stopped working for a few hours after this all happened. but it somehow wound up fixing itself. Would not try this again, big nope. I’m currently trying to figure out how to get decent sound right now though. Since my BVM have no sound at all. Currently I’m running my consoles stereo cables into a female stereo to 3.5mm adapter, and running that into the input of some cheap Logitech speakers. But I’m scared of getting anything stronger or better as the magnets might fuck with my monitors. I suppose I could wallmount above or something. I wanna watch movies and shit at some point.

I haven't read much about the design philosophy behind these speakers, but the cabinets are likely intended to direct and reflect the sound (the cabinets will essentially turn into additional speakers), resulting in a better match between the direct and reflected sound and a more expansive soundstage.

I know they're line arrays and a curved face is supposed to stop certain kinds of distortion/peaks directly in front of them, but that shit is extreme. Mids/tweeters are also generally sealed and don't require a box, certainly not that big. In fact those appear to be planar/ribbon, which really, really doesn't need one. Pretty design though, although an audiofag would probably still bitch that the room setup is terrible for them

In a way, I'm glad I didn't fall into the rabbit hole of audiophilia. It seems like nothing is ever perfect and there's something wrong with everything. The mixing is poor, the encoding is awful, the music doesn't utilize anything more than dolby 2.1. This is coming from someone who's invested in an ultrawide 1440p 144hz monitor for PC gaming but most games these days are 16:9 only, 1080p max, 60fps max. It's a horrible feeling and I can only assume it's the same with audiophiles.

Yes, sir, I could see that and agree with the sentiment.

I just wish people would see that spending $200-$1000 on audio equipment is a worthwhile investment for anybody who cares the least bit about sound.

On a related note, I have never understood these audiophile-bashing threads that form once in while. Do these people exist in sufficient numbers that other people feel the need to group up and start bashing them? Is that an Internets thing? If there is humour in that activity, I do not see it. Why waste time in that? I have never actually known a single one of these "$2000 vacuum tube amplifier" audiophiles personally.

16:10 monitors are hard to come by since they're PC only, while 16:9 dominates due to TVs using them as well. I shoulda stuck with my 1080p 16:9 60hz monitor, at least I'd only be spoiled by 30FPS locked games.

>I just wish people would see that spending $200-$1000 on audio equipment is a worthwhile investment for anybody who cares the least bit about sound.
Most people, unfortunately, have never experienced a proper stereo setup, even if they have a high dollar system, since it's usually set up incorrectly or they listen to it while they walk around. Soundbars, car stereos, bluetooth "pill" sized speakers, and headphones don't come anywhere close to the performance of a proper stereo, but since these have become the dominant methods of consumer sound reproduction over the past couple of decades, I think people mistakenly believe this is the best it gets; or believe that speakers are "outdated" vs. soundbars and bluetooth speakers because it's modern technology and equate audio technology with computer technology (i.e. a smart phone is more powerful than a 90s mainframe that filled a room, so a tiny Bluetooth speaker must be better than a pair of floorstanding speakers with 12" woofers driven by a standalone amplifier).

The "hi-fi" community hasn't been of much help, either. They still sell the perception that you need a lot of cash for great audio. You could thrift or craigslist a killer stereo that would demolish a soundbar/Bluetooth speaker for under 100.00.

70s receivers from Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer are very well built with beefy transformers and quality caps. If it's been serviced, it should be more than enough to drive those speakers with inaudible distortion. The CD player is low end, but DACs have been transparent for 30 years. But yeah, we'd like to see an SA-CD player in any "audiophile" setup, since that format typically has the best masters.
