Check out Galaga Arrangement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1xdzn27Ayw

It adds a lot of very cool enemy patterns and variety while still feeling very much like Galaga. It's great.

I can't comment on how it plays, but they turned it into something ugly.

Galaga 90 for the TG16 is fun
I loved Galaga Legions DX too. Underrated game.

>> No.5857817

maybe if there weren't multiple extremely influential rpgs (wizardry, ultima) and strategy games (utopia, eastern front (1941)) released that year, but otherwise, sure

Won't disagree, but i'd have to say it's a tossup between this and Ms. Pacman. Those two are often included on the same machine for a reason, they will never not be fun.

Yeah, it's a bit confusing. It got a worldwide release as Galaga 88 in arcades. 88 was ported to the PC Engine. TG16 came out in the US in the 2nd half of 1989. Calling it 88 would make it seem dated, so they renamed it Galaga 90.
Then it was ported to the Game Gear as Galaga 91, except in Europe where it was simply called Galaga 2. So between the arcade original and the home ports, it goes by 4 different names.
Back to the PCE/TG16 port... From what I've gathered, it's not entirely arcade perfect but it is a fantastic conversion.

It's weird to call it "Galaga 2" when Galaga was basically Galaxian 2, and Gaplus was already third in line followed by Galaga 88. Galaga 88 was really Galaxian 4

>> No.5863502

>>5863357
You know what's even weirder? Midway changing Gaplus's name to Galaga 3 when it failed to gain traction in arcades.

>> No.5863738

>>5863502
That is screwy. Makes me want to find some missing in-between game. Maybe this oddity can be sorted by treating the names as if they were subtitles.

Galaga 1 : Galaxian
Galaga 2 : Galaga
Galaga 3 : Gaplus
Galaga 4 : Galaga 88

I don't know if that is what they had in mind, but it would auto-sort sequential in a menu.
