I have around 300 retro games and consoles from my childhood. I tallied them up a while back and they're valued in the ballpark of $4k.

I don't play them. If I do want to play a game, I just emulate it on my PC for convenience.

But I can't bring myself to sell them. They have sentimental value to me and I don't want to regret doing it in a few years.

I don't need the money or space or anything, but I guess I just don't think it's healthy to keep shit around you never use. Thoughts?

Sell them to someone who'll take care of them?

Sell what you think you will never want to play or dont have fond memories of playing, did the same a few months ago.

I was like you except I didn't feel very sentimental about most of them and did want more space. I thought I would regret it but never did.

A lot of people keep bookshelves full of books they'll never read again. It just looks good. That's the same case with anything you can collect IMO.
If you don't see your collection like that, then might as well get rid of it. Actually, might get rid of it while it still has some value. Seeing as most of it are either CDs or DVDs, who knows when they'll rot or not.
As for their actual use, more and more people will do exactly what you're doing. Just look it up online and emulate it. Even for the "hardcore" people who go "ORIGINAL HARDWARE ONLY", there's no denying that a flashcart is probably the best solution.

In short, not using them doesn't make them pointless. In my opinion at least.

Unless you're hard up for cash or space there's not really any reason you NEED to sell them. I'd give them some serious thought and consider downsizing the rubbish but again, you don't have to do anything.

Sup OP. I see that star ocean 3 on ps2 down there so im gonna assume you're a pretty cool guy. i dont know why someone would sell something if they didn't need the cash or space, maybe put them away in storage to get them out of your site but the truth is is that you'll want to do something with some of them again one day. I'd keep stuff you like and sell others if you never see yourself ever playing or thinking about it again. until then, enjoy. never do something unless its necessary to progress.

a.k.a. place them on his game-collecting shelve as in OPs pic.

OP, if you are not playing them or use them - just sell them to someone who will play and enjoy them in action. Keep only a few that bring the most vivid memories and nostalgia

There's nothing unhealthy about having a collection. If you ever do need the money or space, then sell them, but don't sell them just for the sake of selling them.

>> No.5775212

You should donate them to your local video game preservationists and attempt to deduct them from your taxes.

How exactly did you "tally up" those "300 retro games and consoles"? Did you check eBay BINs for 300 games hoping you had something L@@K R@RE? Why might you regret it in a few years if you're an emufag? Would it be because you think they're a great investment that might make more than something else? Your story is cool and sounds legit.

I have a dreamcast and 29 games and a saturn and 28 games and together they tally higher in resale value than op's post, so I call bs.

You could have two saturn games that really up that much, doesn't say anything about the minimum value of games - or even the mean

Used PS2/PS1 games aren't worth much and that's pretty much all of his library

most seem to be discs. if you're reluctant to get rid of them, just keep the discs in collection sleeves somewhere out of the way and get rid of the cases/boxes, which aside from being worthless/unnecessary are taking up all the room and requiring you keep them on a shelf

Thinking shelves full of childrens toys is in any way comparable to shelves full of books just outs you as a bugman. You keep saying it's your opinion. Pic related.

I used to have a ton of stuff but I sold or gave away about 95% of it. I had so many games and yet I barely played them. Collecting became the game.
The only /vr/ stuff I have left is some PS1 stuff and a beat up Model 2 Genesis that I buy games for very sparingly.

If they dont harm you, hold on to them. What if you sell them and regret it? Why take that risk? Besides it's more likely they'll appreciate than depreciate

as a guy who gave away ps3 with 50 decent games to younger relatives I'd say sell that shit. you have emulators anyway

You gonna take all those games to heaven with you? Sell 95% of that fucking crap. Keep 1-2 games from each console you really, really love. Alternatively, challenge yourself to only keep what you can fit into one shelf spot.

Now THIS is excellent advice.

Throw them out and download the roms. An entire room of junk condensed down to one hard drive.

Selling my US Turbo Duo + a shit ton of hucards and discs was one of the most difficult decisions I ever took, but after selling it I realized I didn't even use it that much and I barely miss it. I've only kept a hucard of Silent Debuggers around for nostalgia purposes though. If I ever go back to it it's going to be through a JP Duo + Everdrive + CDRs.

>I don't need the money or space or anything

Then don't do it, specially if they have sentimental value.
I barely play video games anymore, and while I could sell modern stuff without giving a fuck I'd never sell old consoles or games I had as a kid.
