PC CRTs are also welcome and appreciated.

I've got a JVC TM-H150CG and am looking to expand it with an SDI card. The specs state it should take a IF-C21SDG, but will it take the IF-C21SD1G as well? The JVC website doesn't really give any clear information about how the two models differ, other than the somewhat different connectors on it.

I'm consolizing a neo geo arcade board and am using a circuit to attenuate the RGB levels to that appropriate for consumer equipment. I have an RGB monitor so I'm set. I would like to add other video outputs for taking this to a few friend's houses.

So what's the cheapest way to get from RGB to Component? RGB to S-video, RGB to composite? I'm totally open to self soldering, even smd stuff, in fact, I would prefer something DIY as I don't want to spend shit on this and quite enjoy soldering.

Pic related is the fix for some of the trinitrons. If you have a loud whine and touch the case and it stops, this fixes it. It's harmonic resonance traveling from the flyback to the case, which amplifies the sound. I used soft foam toilet bowl to tank gasket, cut into washers and bolted it back together. Plain rubber washers would probably work, as would something like yoga mat foam rubber. I think an anon had this problem last thread but never answered when I asked if touching the case stopped it. It's a flat screen, guessing 24" or so but I forget the exact model.

I did the retrotek rgb to component adapter. I think they cost $80 but you can use them for multiple systems. They take scart, but most does unless you make your own cables.

Honestly if you only want a few of the retrovision cables, it's probably easiest to just buy them. It's not necessarily the best for all setups but it is damn easy and you can get different adapters for a few other systems.

for s-video and composite you need an encoder (most of them will also buffer and clamp RGB). For component you need another step, either external or with another chip like tim does with nesrgb.

There may be slight issues with the emulation, but the only ones that matter to me are input lag and the wrong rendering/output resolution. >art cable, cut the end off and replace it with BNC adapters and if my monitor accepts RGB then it should just work?

Just FYI, these exist: https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sony-av-accessories/sony-pvm/sony-pvm-scart-converter-bnc you can find sellers on ebay who sell them for less and are US based. Also, you can make your own if you buy female scart heads ($3-4) and a monoprice bnc cable. The monoprice is about $10, but if you cut it in half, it gives you two ends to make cables with, and a lot of extra shielded wire for projects. All in all counting resistors you're out probably $10 per cable, $12 if you need a sync stripper as certain models of extron crosspoint require. If you're going straight to pvm or a bandridge switcher, you don't need sync stripper.

Alternately, you should be able to just remove the scart end from a pre made scart cable, wire in the monoprice bnc (with whatever resistors you need hidden in a small project box, or heat shrink tubing. Doing it this way and bypassing the scart, the cables would be $5 or so each.

I actually remember my sight getting very tired the first month I started using a PC CRT as my main monitor, but now I don't mind at all.
And my sight is still 20/20. Even though I recognize the image is "fuzzy" I can read it without problems. Funny thing is that when my Father or even my younger brother come and look at it, they can't make out the text. My Father isn't really a surprise, but my brother should be able to. It's what has led me to believe looking at CRTs is an acquired taste.
I can also make out the interlacing in SD CRT TVs and I don't like it, but whatever.

Just wondering if there was any talk by one of the hardware people about a higher resolution or updated OSSC/XRGB-like device? 1080p is cool and all, but I feel like with the years of feedback and learning a new device should have at least been mentioned? Even if it is still max 1080p there are so many minor issues with the current most recommended devices I thought I would ask.

this is why ULMB is a thing

top crt's used to have 1ms to 2ms of persistence blur which equates to 500fps@500hz
60fps@60hz sample and hold(flicker-free) on the other hand equates to 16.67ms of blur and it looks like dogshit

There is a fork called not64 that implements 240p (it may even be in the upstream version?)

It's not accessible via menu though, you have to manually set the mode in the cfg file. That being said, the emulation isn't great but is workable for OoT for what I've played of it on there. Mileage may vary.

I tried today with a ps1 and a scart cable (it doesn't do RGB so I assume it sends a composite signal only) and that one worked correctly.

So now it's either the sega scart cable or I'm missing something on the scart-bnc one.

Further testing must be done.

that pic was 240p@120hz. the specs of the monitor aren't bad, it's just the dynaflat tube samsung uses in them has a rather obvious lens effect going on. so if you look at the corners you can notice the interior curvature of the tube, and since you sit rather close to a pc monitor it's hard not to notice once you see it. i've seen moved onto a better monitor and gave that one to some guy who bought a 36" wega off me. here's a pic of my current tv, a kv-27fv310, running 240p over component.

It should be noted, the Genesis makes ridiculous use of dithering, which you'll lose completely with RGB and considerably with S-Video.
Either you get the colormixing that composite/RF give you(and lots of rainbowbanding with it) or clearer text/details and purer colors from S-Video and RGB respectively.

Mind you I had massive widescreen tv too, almost as large as they made them, on smaller ones text might be unreadable on composite. very few it seems. Also PAL PS3 forces 50hz on PS3 games. Even games that are US or JP versions run 50hz but some games actually run in 60hz. Xbox 360 is lot better on CRT. I think every Xbox 360 games should run in 4:3 since it has better support for different resolutions. It also doesnt have the 50hz problem.

- CRTs are no longer produced because they have inferior picture quality versus LCDs
- CRTs emit dangerous levels of X-rays or other forms of radiation
- CRTs always have easily-visible flicker
- CRTs always cause eyestrain
- CRTs always make a high-pitched squealing noise
- CRTs contain lethal amounts of electricity, even when unplugged
- CRTs need calibration more than two to three times a year
- Overall CRT black levels are not superior to LCDs because ambient light ruins CRT black levels
- Analog CRTs have more processing time than digital LCDs due to poor RAMDAC performance
- Afterimages caused by phosphor decay are extremely annoying and are a significant downside of CRTs
- Sending an improper mode (resolution or refresh rate) to a CRT can cause permanent damage
- CRTs cannot have touchscreens
- 4:3 is so bad that nobody should use a non-widescreen CRT
- The Sony GDM-FW900 is the only CRT worth owning
- Curved CRTs have objectively inferior picture quality versus flat CRTs with otherwise equal specifications
- CRTs should not be used because they are heavier and deeper than LCDs
- CRTs have severe reflections because they do not have matte coats
- CRTs can be permanently damaged by nearby magnets

One of my neighbors left two CRTs out on the curb, a Panasonic and a JVC. I picked up the Panasonic and tested it. I don't really know anything about CRTs, but OoT looks pretty good on it. Model number says it's a CT-32G14A. Should I go back for the JVC?

Nearly finished an rgb mod on a hitachi 29".
First attempt was a fail. I put the rgb (scart) inputs to the digital rgb, and put 5v to the digital blanking inputs on the jungle ic through a 4pdt switch - the result of this was full white screen when turning the switch on. Changed all that to the analog rgb/blanking lines on jungle ic and results are pretty good. Colors are nice, image is stable, good sound, didn't die, but the picture is slightly to the left. I've tapped sync into a composite line and have read that using a luma line fixes this.
Anyone else here rgb'd a consumer tv ?

I haven't used a CRT regularly since maybe 2010. Turning on my old one for the first time in ages - is that very, very slight beep it emits while being turned on normal? It gives me a headache. I feel like I'd remember this happening to me in my childhood years.

I have an R9 270x with crt_emudriver installed, and I connect it to my CRT from a DVI > VGA adapter, and then a VGA > YPbPr box. It could output 240p resolutions on Windows 7 just fine, but it just freaks the fuck out and looks like it's trying to output 480p resolutions on Windows 10. 480i resolutions work just fine though.

Is there any fix for this, or am I really going to have to keep an install of Windows 7 around just for my CRT?

sorry about the mess.

I just picked up this CRT so I can play games when I get art block. I had to get an RCA/coaxial adapter but beside that it's super nice to have. but I noticed something.

when I used the NES on the 3 high def tvs i've used it on, I constantly got purple screens when trying to boot up a game. but with the CRT I haven't had one yet, and have booted games with a near 100% success rate. does the NES simply respond better to a CRT? I'm just curious.

Capacitor in the NES is normally the issue.

Sometimes the pins need to be cleaned up because the games becomes 'deseated' but I think that issue happening at random times after the game is already working means the capacitor is the actual issue.

Well stop. The worst of it is easily corrected through the service menu if it needs to be done at all. Most likely all you will want to do is a little bit of bringing in the overscan to a more reasonable level.

Going full turbo-autist about geometry is foolishness.

In new england I paid like $800 for a 20L5, but I paid for it by selling a bvm I got for free so I basically just traded it for free. I'd say $200 for a good functioning 14" with decent phosphors is about market price. In otherwords, it's not a deal, it's the price you pay for laziness.
