>> No.5727474

>>5727441
Depends on how you play the game. If you collect everything at the beginning (bait, blue candle, blue ring, potions, big shield, spare keys, etc.) then you literally don't need rupees for anything. At that point, arrows become your best friend. You can use them for range attacks when you're not at full health and can't shoot sword beams. They're really powerful and it doesn't matter if they cost rupees because you already own everything.

No. I thought so as a kid because I hoarded rupees. But when I have rupees to spare, arrows are useful because they fire instantly. I use them in Level-6 to take out the Like-Likes before trying to kill the Wizrobes. That way I almost never lose my magic shield.

>> No.5727541

>>5727532
I don't know damage values, but I know that blast damage from bombs faces whatever direction you were facing when you dropped it. This makes them ideal for killing darknuts in crowded rooms. You can drop them and run away, and if they're facing the right direction, it'll take out several of them at once.

>> No.5727586

>>5727541
Huh. I just figured it was radial damage.

>> No.5727605

>>5727529
It's useful to anyone who can learn it. But for most it's probably just enough to know which enemies are on which loot tables, and what's in each loot table. For example starting out the game by killing blue octorocks is a good way to get some bombs quickly, since you know the first random drop will be a bomb so long as you don't kill any A-group enemies first.

I'm making deductions and ignoring unimportant details. You can match the enemies listed next to "B" (by fucking picture no less) with the "B column" of loot drops and see that something like 30% of the drops from those enemies are bombs, and NO other enemies ever drop bombs.

3-year-olds are capable of simple matching like this, and being unable to filter extraneous information and process the rest in a useful, practical way is actually more of a sign of autism than not, anon.

>> No.5727701

>>5727692
Forgive me for being a math brainlet, but it seems to me, even ignoring which enemies you kill, you have a 3/10 chance of getting a bomb depending on the variable at 052A.

>> No.5727721

>>5727701
yes, the arcane knowledge is that 052A increments each time you kill an enemy (of any type). So if you kill a blue Octo on the first turn and he doesn't drop anything, you can kill 4 reds before killing another blue for a chance at a bomb drop.

But the chart can still be useful without that level of optimization. You can just only kill blues until the bombs drop, which takes slightly longer but will be a lot faster than wasting time killing Leevers and Tektites which will never drop them no matter how many you kill.

>> No.5727728

>>5727721
>the arcane knowledge is that 052A
You're being facetious, but nobody in fucking 1980 knew about that register. Nobody knew about it until recently. Nobody who isn't a speedrunning autist keeps a running mental note of what variable is stored at 052A. Just admit that you're terminally autistic and we can move on.

>"The water of life is a medicine that can beat anything." (???)

A step by step guide to how to find levels 1 and 2 is barely useful since anyone who is interested in the game to begin with will go exploring and find these on their own. The map of the overworld that is 75% complete is admittedly helpful, but the world isn't very large to begin with so again, anyone exploring should learn it without needing the map. The hints for levels 7 and 8 are there, as well as letting you know you can burn bushes, but the other 99% of the instructions are unhelpful to anyone but someone who has literally never played a video game before in their lives. Like no joke, one page is literally telling you you can go right from the starter screen. Like, yeah no shit? Who needs to be told this? There is nothing in there about needing bait to get through the Goriya or anything like that so no I don't see this manual as being "essential". It is fun to read through though.

Read the instruction booklet, many times if you need to. Never consult a guide or check something out online, trust me... the game is much better that way.

No it's not. It's way better if you know where to go so you don't spend hours wasting your time feeling frustrated. Follow a walkthrough 100% including all optional content.

don't listen to this fag
If you are legitimately stuck and frustrated just ask here for a hint.

Other than the entrance to the seventh dungeon (which the tree already is suspicious as hell) EVERYTHING is hinted at either by the old men or the instruction booklet.

yes although the someone might not have found all the hints.
The real assumption is that it's fairly rare for people to get honestly frustrated with this game (Q1 anyway) and if they do it's usually because they're having a hard time getting through the Wizrobe rooms in Level-6. But every so often you might wind up with a player that for whatever reason missed something that is obvious to everyone else and a minor nudge in the right direction can resolve their frustration without having to resort to a spoiler guide.

Don't forget rooms that can only be accessed by walking through walls, skull bubbles that permanently disable your sword, and those "leave your money or life" dungeon rooms where you pay 50 rupees or sacrifice a heart container to pass through.

Sounds way more intense than the first quest. I'll have to check it out.

>skull bubbles that permanently disable your sword

What? How do you get your sword back then?

>> No.5739381

>>5739364
there are 2 different color bubbles. Red ones take your sword. You have to get hit by a blue one to get it back. Commonly it'll be 2 red bubbles in a room and 1 blue. But sometimes the blue ones are in a different room from the reds. The mechanic is introduce with a room full of red bubbles, then you go to the next room and there is a room full of blue ones.

I hate how you have to grind for money in this game if you try to do everything efficiently.

>start game, get the free rupees
>buy candle, blue ring, farm free bombs
>get enough money for arrows and big shield
>buy both bomb upgrades

Now I'm stuck at level 7 and need the bait but I only have 20 rupees left and did all the freebies. The only way was to not buy the big shield (even for 90) but where's the fun in that? So I don't know what to do now, just go kill octoroks for 20 minutes to get money : /

The blue wizzrobes are the worst. They can move diagonally and fuck your shit right up.

Did you find the 100 rupees on the hidden screen behind the invisible staircase?
