Order of Ecclesia
Portrait of Ruin
SotN

Those top 4s are very uncontroversial, usually in peoples top tier

I just find SotN slightly worse than the PoR and Ecclesia. But it's still a decent game.

>> No.5604463

Nah

It's really good in my opinion and I can overlook a few flaws, but it does have flaws that other games in the series don't. And while I like the more modern style of castlevania (exploration and a few rpg mechanics, stuff like that) I can understand why people who loved classic castlevanias would complain if the style of game was changed for like half of the series and the only games available that were more like the classic ones were either ports or remakes.

For instance one of the flaws I find with the game is the equipment in general. Yes, there's a lot of variety with weapons that have unique special attacks and such, and on your first playthrough you might not even use them at all, but there's a lack of balance where some weapons will pretty much go unused unless you force yourself to because by the time you grab them you might already have something that's much better despite whatever effect it might have. Not to mention many of these weapons and equipment options make the game already quite easy with the exception of one boss. Another issue I find with this already easy game is familiars, which you get access to late enough that you might not even bother with for long. I would personally change the game so familiars were attainable earlier, but weapons were balanced in such a way that exploration was rewarding, plus you would choose different ones for different situations rather than sticking to overly powerful stuff. And maybe make the game a bit more challenging. I never gave a shit about things like enemy element weaknesses and I feel that that's a problem with the game giving you stuff that's so powerful that's almost irrelevant.

Despite that I think it's a pretty great game. People have issues with the level design, I know that map from top to bottom and I really don't have an issue with it (I would say if I had to dislike one map, it's Harmony of Dissonance).

There has never been real criticism for Castlevania IV outside of unexplained "bros" memes and claiming it's easy when in fact gets harder than Rondo or Bloodlines (or at least on the same leve as those).
So.
Also, auster has learned to hide his ass sometimes, he tried to pass as a /vg/ kid some weeks ago by adopting the jarpig buzzword.
