Discuss weird retro games. And I mean, actually weird retro games. LOLRANDOM or slightly odd need not apply.

Purilura (Japanese version) and JJ Squawks
Both good games, both start out relatively and then go increasingly insane to the point you start to wonder if you're hallucinating. Download the Japanese rom for Purilura though the World release is missing some graphical effects and enemies.

There was this bizarre PC shovelware game that was about Y2K. you were a scientist and you went into a computer and fought Y2K bugs, which literally looked like bugs.

>> No.5505124

I forget the specifics, but there was one Japanese arcade fighting game that used digitized sprites before Mortal Kombat or Pit Fighter, and one of the characters was a guy that looked like Piccolo and a monk doll.

No one ever mentions the World Builder games in Max OS Classic. These were all built with the same tool: World builder, and produced point and click adventures with static images as each location. You could click on things in the image to acquire them, if they were pick-upable. One guy made a living on these until the early 2000's, and he started with A Mess of Trouble.

I say all that to say this: One World Builder game was called Psychotic: The Escape Part One. It was literally an adventure about escaping from a violent psychotic ward. You can type "rape" and rape this nurse. It's a pretty wild ride.

Reikai Doushi. Piccolo actually debuted in the same year the game was released, 1988, so it may be just a coincidence.

I can't post screenshots for obvious reasons, but the weirdest are old "erotic" games like Duke Screw'em 38DD where all the weapons are fleshmelded dicks and every texture is is random porn image in some wolf3D engine knockoff. They were mostly mail order and lost to time but the ones that exist all look like HR Giger fever dreams.

I really enjoyed PuLiRuLa's strangeness. Really fun little beat'em up too.
JJ Squawks is okay, but it's way less interesting in it's weirdness. Going from a town, to a dream world to "geometric shape land" to space to whatever the fuck the final level is. It doesn't even say why the levels are the way they are. At least PuLiRuLa has the excuse that the machinery that makes reality normal got busted.

Nice "Weird Dreams". I played it on my Amiga back in the day but never know WTF was going on.

Another one would be "Deus Ex Machina" for C64 and ZX Spectrum. The game came with a complete soundtrack, narration and all on tape that needed to get synchronized with the game for the full immersion.

Fucking Pie in the Sky Engine.
Pretty much 90% of the games done with it are asset flips where they didn't even bother to change the HUD or weapons.

There was even a remake done, that was narrated by Christopher Lee of all people. I'm not sure how it developed like that, since afaik the crowd founding for Deus Ex Machina 2 failed, yet the game was released somehow.

I remember playing an really wierd super meta game in the early 2ks (it was dealing with wierd retro topics or forums so it is /vr/). All I can remember is that you played as this wierd human(oid?) creature beig tortured by two scientists who sent him into various fucked up simulations.

Near the end the whole thing catches fire and a few seconds loop of some songs that literarly has just the lyrics "We're on fire" loop indefinetly. The creature ends up capturing the scientists and putting them into the simulations instead. Does anyone know which game this is?

Auf der Suche nach dem Ultimate Mix (In Search of the Ultimate Mix), a P&C adventure game based on a French comic that, as far as I'm aware, was only released in Germany.

>In Auf der Suche nach dem Ultimate Mix the player takes control of Moses Vider who lives in a world were the evil Graf von Voiddospunk forbid all funk music and caused a paralyzing rain. Moses wants to end the power of Voiddospunk by defeating his protégé Sir Noise at a DJ championship. But to do this he has to steal the "Ultimate Mix" from Voiddospunk's secret record store.

Or to quote some guy on Youtube:
Imagine a world where golden piss rain washes away your music preference and kills your soul, turning you into a yellow wiggly thing and only niggas immune to piss rule the street and white big titted women sing in night clubs.
