>roll for hours to even have a chance for characters to not instantly die because of good bonus
>create proxy characters for hours, add to party, pool gold, delete proxies, repeat until you have actual equipment for mains
>Armor class if glitched in NES version and doesnt affect enemy attacks at all
>you can get warped to inescapable rooms via trap chests and lose hours of character leveling

Has anyone here actually beat this game?

Deathlord. This game is Wizardry IV levels of make you want to cry. Especially because when you die, it automatically records it to your save game, so...game over. You have to restart from scratch. Keeping about 50 backup save copies is necessary to survive.

Sort the Wizardry games (not the Japanese ones) by difficulty. Which Wiz games are on par with 7th Saga (SNES)?

One time when I was a kid, we asked for double dragon for Christmas.
Me and siblings were about 5 or 6.
We got Wizardry for some reason.
We didn't hate it, but we weren't good at it.
It was still fun spending hours rolling good characters though.

>> No.5437858

Nobody is forcing you to play the NES versions.
I don't think there are inescapable rooms in the games. The dungeons are designed so that you can always return to the normal area. When you get lost after triggering a warp trap it can help to trigger another to get back to known territory. If nothing else helps there's still MALOR and LOKTOFEIT.

Starting difficulty:
6>1>3>5
2 doesn't really have a start since you import your characters.

Finishing difficulty:
5>1>2>6>3

Haven't played any of the Saga games.

7th Saga is not part of the SaGa series, but I can see where you are coming from.
I think that series is just 7th Saga (Elnard or something in Japan) and Mystic Ark which kinda has a similar feel but doesn't really follow the same continuity.

games are just rising and falling numbers at their core. it's the nitty-gritty and stripped down essence of all games. bottom-line: just fucking avoid wizardry like the plague. don't even play wizardry clones like Elminage and Etrian Odyssey. there is very little chance and patience you might finish them anyway. Perhaps the PS2 Wizardry and the Wiz 8 game is beatable and even fun but I still dropped those too so I can't think of many outliers beyond that. everyone is a degenerate foolish no-good casual and manbaby when facing most Wizardry titles.

The problem with Wizardry is that it emulates AD&D hardcore, except it leaves out one crucial thing: minions. You took on these hard as fuck dungeons with literally an army of hired mooks to gang rush mobs and buy you time against traps and big bads.

What?
Aquire has the IP right now, though the latest Wiz game is pretty disappointing.
Go play the Elminage games if you want the sublimation of classic wizardy, Gothic has fantastic gameplay balance compared to the rest, but Original and 2 have better gimmicks and puzzles, which Gothic lacks almost entirely, they're also immensely more broken, Original especially, which becomes almost a parody once you get class masteries, especially for Thieves or Brawlers.

Don't disrespect based Bradley

>> No.5443528

>>5443365
Can you explain what makes 7 not bad?
Bradley made 5 which overall was a much needed evolution of the classic formula.
Then he made 6 which had some dubious changes.
Finally he made 7 which lacked all the impact of Wizardry by turning it into a nonlinear slog.

>> No.5444158

>>5443528
1. It still has one of the best class changing systems in any rpg to this date. 2. Unironically, the prose. Say what you will, but it makes the feel like you're sitting around a dungeon master.
3. The combat. It's same as the other Wizardrys, but still good.

>> No.5444169

>>5444158
And although I still prefer 6, I can't blame Bradley for having a bloated open world rather than a series of dungeons. Wizardry took a huge hit in popularity in the west due to the outdated graphics and stagnation of 4 and 5. People wanted more RPGs like Ultima and M&M, where there are huge worlds with lots of NPCs and quests.

>> No.5444686

>>5444158
>3. The combat. It's same as the other Wizardrys, but still good.
It had those stupid alternate melee attacks. Combat in Wizardry is supposed to be fast but in 7 it's slow.
