I just want Metroid to have good gameplay again and not be an excuse to peddle cutscenes and fanservice in my face. I'm so sick of every discussion becoming nothing more than people jerking off to zero suit porn, or shitposting about their erotic fetishes. Metroid was a juggernaut back in the 90's. Maybe not as popular as Mario, but it was recognized as a good game. What did it do to deserve this?

Don't blame horny retards, blame that 13-year gap without a classic-style 2D game (17 years and counting without an original one). Sure we got plenty of Castlevanias, but Nintendo just doesn't seem to give much of a shit about Metroid anymore.

I mean, if there is a girl in the series, the sexual aspect is going to come up no matter what. If you don't notice this in other threads, you just aren't looking hard enough for it. The difference is in the games. Fire Emblem gets a new game regularly to keep the discussion fresh. Final Fantasy at least gets something to keep the pot churning, even if opinions get more and more divided with every new release. Fighting-game girls are often three-quarters of the way naked or wrapped in bondage as it is, but those games still get decent discussion because they get a new entry on the regular.

Metroid is just barren. We got a 2.5D game that everyone laughed at, and a spin-off game that looked bland at best. I already know everything about the old 2D games. I'd rather discuss the porn at this point, too.

Metroid would've been a better series if Samus was never a woman. Rewrite the whole thing so that she's just a robot. She spares the last metroid for reasons other than MUH MOTHERLY FEELINGS. do something to spare the series from Other M. Even if it means gutting the entire series inside out. No cost is too great to salvage what used to be a good metroidvania.

Anon, I was okay with her zero suit when it was a small thing. Sexism had nothing to do with it. I hated it when it started taking over the whole series and turned Metroid into a crying and feelings simulator with that one installment that shall not be named.

Don't kid yourself anon.Every moment in Metroid where Samus ever showed emotions was pure filth. The games would be better off without them. Get rid of the flashbacks from Zero Mission, get rid of the cutscenes from Fusion, kill the animals AND the baby from Super, and you have improved metroid by a thousand fold. Samus should be a cold, emotionless killing machine, nothing more. That's when Metroid was at its prime (heh).

Zero Mission is what fucked it up and introduced Zero Suit Samus.

And the reason ZM was made is because Nintendo had no direction for the series after Super Metroid.

And the reason for that is that Gunpei Yokoi died after Super Metroid.

The first three games are the only canon games. Everything else is a shitty cash-in.

There was exactly 1 (one) Metroid game that was a feelings simulator, and that was released on the Wii almost ten years ago. Everyone with a brain agrees that game was a mistake.
Samus Returns had no crying, minimal commentary from Samus (mostly reserved to the intro), and no real sexy fan service unless you are counting the results screens which is stupid since every Metroid game had a sexy result screen.
Stop thinking about Other M, and just enjoy the other titles in the series without acknowledging it's existence

Seriously the only time the series was negatively impacted by Samus being a woman was Other M, and that game would've sucked shit if Samus were a man, a woman, a robot, or a pterodactyl. The first three games have a grand total of maybe five minutes' worth of cutscenes even if you're counting Zero Mission in place of NEStroid, and she acts perfectly sensibly throughout Fusion and the Prime games. The only reasons most Metroid threads around here devolve into porn dumps are that most /v/irgins are manchildren and there's only been one decent Metroid game released in the past decade.
