5171213 No.5171213 [Reply] [Original]

There were more games cancelled for the 64DD than released. Most of those are now in the hands of nip shut-ins who will never dump them.

>> No.5171220

I am okay with this. Because there are literally thousands of games out there ready to play right now, so I'm not gonna spaz out over the small handful of games which I can't play.

where did i say that? i just don't care about some games which no one knows anything about (and probably suck shit) not being dumped

>> No.5171332

>>5171229
At least he's honest. For as much as people bitch about things not being dumped, most new dumps of things seem to be met with little fanfare, and things much more interesting than that retail revision of some pachinko game that seemed to get people's panties in a wad a little while back.

Pokémon Spaceworld demos.
I know lots of people would spend a pretty penny on OoT64DD as well.

>> No.5171357

>>5171347
The attention the Pokemon games got were an anomaly, in part because of le epic tumblr and twitter memes. Stuff is released all the time to very little acknowledgement.

>> No.5171360

>>5171357
So? People should preserve games because it's the right thing to do, not because they want internet fame.

>> No.5171373

>>5171360
Oh, I don't disagree about the significance of preserving whatever possible. I just think that if people truly care and are unable to help preserve things themselves, they should consider positively encouraging those in positions to do so, instead of just screeching at them and then doing nothing when they do actually get what they want.

>> No.5171378

>>5171360
I mean what would you have us do? They're someone's private property, so ultimately the only things we can do is either REEE about it or break into their homes and steal it. The former is pointless, and the latter is illegal, so the best option is to not care.

>> No.5171379

>>5171357
stuff that nobody cares about is released all the time*
I understand the importance of preservation as well as any /vr/ poster should, but you're kidding yourself if you think people care about obscure demos.

that's far different from nobody caring about 64DD titles, which is probably the holy grail of unreleased vidya.

>> No.5171389

>>5171378
>so the best option is to not care
that's quite defeatist.
the best option is money. making them outrageous offers for unique items.

I care about retro games, but that doesn't mean I care about every single retro game ever made, and that counts doubly for incomplete titles. Maybe I would care more if any of them seemed particularly interesting. It looks like most of the interesting ones were later released as N64 or Gamecube games.

>> No.5171404

>>5171391
define people. because I'm sure you're talking about a relatively small circle of hoarders itching for another green mark in their rom manager.
stuff like that isn't make any news in the gaming community at large.

the spaceworld demos weren't "anomalies". it's popular stuff that's gonna get people stirred.

The thing is that even though these would be cool as complete games they don't exist as complete games. There are probably some assets, but there is nothing to suggest that any of these games existed in a form that is actually playable, or even had any gameplay implemented. Its fun to imagine what they might have been like, but I'm not going to act like Super Mario 64 2 is floating around in a semi-completed state somewhere just waiting for someone to find and dump it.

To be fair, I'm an American neckbeard and I have a few unreleased games. Most are either unreleased Translations or shovelware, and the most interesting ones that aren't in those categories have already been dumped in some fashion or another. One of the builds is slightly different from the dumped one, though mine will be posted somewhere eventually.
