FireRed and LeafGreen are definitely improvements on the originals. I don't know if they are the definitive versions and best way to experience the games due to parts of the game being completely changed.

The Game & Watch Gallery remakes as a series are still /vr/, if you're afraid of the tone police. There's a few entries on DSiWare but only included the original look, not the upgraded visuals.
Some hate the collections because of the unlock requirements but i can't wrap my head around that... why would one be against adding some sense of progression to the games?

Gen 1 and 2 were remade quite well, even though they're missing some of the content (the jp mobile tower in crystal for example) It's a damn shame 3's remake is so lazy, rushed and incomplete.

Why would you even play the GBA port. The multi-5 translation isn't worth it.
This goes for Capcom's Mickey trilogy as well (heard they added a playable Minnie to 1 but a lazy sprite romhack of the original should fix that)

I actually found a G&W Gallery II cart with some plastic broken off on the side of the street when I was a kid. Knowing nothing about it and having few games at the time, I played the shit out of it and was ecstatic to unlock everything I could. Good times. I can still zone out to Vermin or Ball, either versions.

I never got the console-war thing even as a kid. I played the systems I had and if I went to a friend's house and they had a different system, I got to play something different and that was that. I had Genesis, a cousin had SNES. I had a GBC, a friend had a GameGear. I had N64, a classmate had Playstation, and so on. I don't understand people today especially feeling like there's sides to take instead of seeing multiple libraries to explore and enjoy.

Which makes consolewarring over retro consoles so much stranger today, since anyone with a toaster for a PC can emulate the older systems without problem.
