My hyperspin setup's mame section has everything but clones, gambling trash, mahjong, and T&A games. The problem is that I have to go through every game and make sure the bezels look right and the controls are set up correctly for all the games because autism, so I've been playing EVERY game in the xml (2200 games or so). Took three days to get through the A's. On the bright side I'm finding great games i've never played before.

I've been playing mostly MAME for a few years, and these past months it's the only thing I play and frankly I don't miss much of anything, I became tired of trying new stuff and always ending up disappointed while I enjoy a lot of arcade games.
Lately I've been focusing on Shin Nakamura's works, particularly Sonic Wings (Aero Fighters), which is a derivative yet very fun game. I think its success was due to having more "replay value" than other contemporaries in a sense: multiple ships to play with and a the first three stages being in a random order (having each a different version depending on which order it took) to spice things up.

>> No.4770658

Have fun continuing to do that, knowing it's already been done by teams of people so you're re-doing it in a more shitty way

>> No.4770678

>>4770658
it really hasn't though, and a lot of games have multiple bezels made by different people, some better than others. I have every bezel pack and a load of bespoke bezels that weren't included in the packs since they haven't been updated in years and only have bezels for half of the current romset, even without all the clones, mahjong shit, etc. You're a tripfaggot though so you wouldn't know any of this.

Maybe, but the quality difference in a lot of bezels is maddening. You can see the border on pic related cutting off the edges of the screen. That's unacceptable to me. And that's part of the official super duper bezel pack made by teams of people.

honestly, it depends on the game.

I like some of them, like Flying Shark and Kyukyoku Tiger (Twin Cobra). But not a fan of the constant button-pounding (especially in games like Raiden with its point-blank moneyshots), it kills my arms. OTOH if I turn on autofire then the games lose their charm and become monotonous.. it's a catch-22 for me.

Yes, it's been fully completeable for at least two years now, just has a few graphics glitches. Also annoyingly is all in Japanese as English boards are rare as hen's teeth. This and Cleopatra Fortune Plus are considered the first fully working Naomi games. It needs a beast of a machine even to run these though, I get 60% speed on my ageing 4.5GHZ i5.
There's quietly been quite a bit of work done on Naomi recently but the DRC isn't fast enough yet to be viable compared to Demul.

Another interesting/annoying thing is that from this version there is a second set of ROMs needed for the Model 1 games. They've now emulated one of the I/O boards for it which means you can now output debug information to an LCD screen like on the real hardware. For everyone else it now means you need a further model1io2.zip file which is sure to cause rage and angst.

Frustratingly close to perfect. Games run full 60FPS on my i5, but there are little bugs still. Most noticeably most games have a horrible washed out look to their textures (very obvious in Daytona). Virtua Fighter 2 is classified as "working" now and seems perfect apart from this washed out problem. Sega Rally works good but has lots of little clipping issues and bugs like missing the needle on the tachometer and the rear view mirror isn't working currently. I also triggered a nasty bug where I fell through the track that I've never seen on a real machine or on Elsemi's Model 2 emulator.

Playing Guardians (Denjin Makai II) a lot these days. Really great game. The only negative is the low sound quality, it's like 22 Hz or something. Why they decided to do that, I have no clue. Also the lack of voices is kinda strange, but might be an intentional design decision. Or maybe they ran out of time? The cats meow. Also, ONE enemy screams while he falls from the window in the last level. Anyway, the rest of the game is polished as hell. Even the enemy entrances show that they put a lot of love and time into the game.

Jinrei: Beast. Just don't go punching everyone like normal. His punch has short reach. But literally EVERYTHING else he has is awesome. I 1cc'ed with him on my 3rd try with him. Didn't even use his horizontal torpedo move or the sword upper move.. He is just solid all around and can dance all over the place and pick his shots. His ninja stars knock down everything. He's amazing with a sword. also, against individual enemy's you can do nice damage with grab, f,f -> air throw.

Skullbyule: Beastly as well. Everyone knows this.

Rou: Extremely underrated. I think he's as good as the above two... HOWEVER, his jump attacks are ass. He has trouble on bosses 4 and 7. That's IT. Otherwise, he's beastly. His punch, punch, shoulder combo is the most damaging normal combo in the game. do that then the whip (hold UB) then juggles.. anyway, he's beastly.

Girulian: Godlike.. 3 kicks-> pillar fireball -> jumping bulldog... that's like 12 bars of damage for 2 energy bars... no one comes close to this guy.. literal god mode once you know what you're doing.

tulks & belva: very strong. not as well-rounded though. still beastly.

the girls: lol............. they're fucking shit.

More importantly they finally got the Taito C chips decapped. Rainbow Islands and Operation Wolf finally working perfectly for the first time in 30 years. Even the likes of Taito Legends mentioned in this thread has big chunks of Operation Wolf missing based on its functioning being guess work (from MAME!). Looks fine to me.
Only problem I noticed is that the polygons don't cut off quite right when the camera zooms in real close to things, which sticks out in the attract demo, but is unnoticeable during gameplay so long as you don't touch the VR Buttons.
Other Model 2 games tend to chug, though demanding more processor speed. Sonic the Fighters on MAME runs at a crawl and is unplayable for me, for example. Daytona USA is one of the least demanding Model 2 games, so it runs full speed on my rig.
I wouldn't say it's "frustratingly close to perfect", but it's pretty damned good, and leagues above the older build that you pilfered that bait from. It just requires you have a processor worth a damn in your computer.

New MAME out. People were talking about SF Rush 2049, it's had some work done and works better in the new version. The sound's much better now and more importantly it's much more stable. I had one crash on starting a race, but was able to play all the tracks through without issue (not very good at the game though). Still marked as not working, so mark expectations accordingly.

The Micheal Keaton movies and games were frickin' awesome. Batman (1989 arcade game) was very close to the movie and so was Batman Returns on the SNES. Batman Forever The Arcade Game was a much better game than the Batman Forever games on the SNES and Genesis.

The VS. Super Xevious* is a blast, too, though I have no idea if there are any real differences between it and the Famicom version.

* There is also an arcade Super Xevious which is really more of a clone of the original since only a handful of the rom chips are different. NOT the game I'm talking about.

Raiden DX

Starting to hate the game. Gigantic hitboxes, RNG boss patterns and those goddamn sniper tanks that spawn near the bottom edge of the screen and fire immediately. It's painfully obvious that the devs wanted you to credit feed.

>> No.4884270

Not for a while, I'd imagine, and once they do start working, assuming they don't get hardware acceleration working by then, you'll probably need a supercomputer pilfered from some science lab in order to run them at playable speed.

Actually performance wise they run quite well, I get 70% speed in the attract mode of Scud Race and full speed in the menus. There must be computers out already that can run them full speed. The big problem at the minute is it crashes once you start a race..

>> No.4884609

No shit?
I would've thought attempting emulating the graphics of a Model 3 accurately through pure software would tank one's speed.
This is going off my experience with certain Model 2 games slowing down on my system, so I expected Model 3 to be even worse off.
