I just had "one of those" weird ideas again: MODELDEF could be used as an aliasing system for unrestricted (hud/weapon) sprite names. You know how every model based actor in a mod can use MDLA or something for it's sprite simultaneously? Well if you used a single sided flat plane model for every weapon, you could change the Skin property in between frames for each of them.

So for example you'd have your RLDA A[...]Z frames in your weapon reload state, and the modeldef assigns something like

Skin 0 "Phlebotonium_gun_reload_frame_01.png" etc to them.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Here's a bizarre one. It's called X-Men: Ravages of Apocalypse. It was a commercially sold total conversion. You'd go around shooting clones of the X-Men.

It looks like something that should have stayed as a free mod off the internet.

Map Jam 9 just came out and that greatly expands the Fodrian level theme to AD levels of complexity. I'd also recommend Rubicon Rumble Pack if you want the most ambitious base maps yet.

The episode should be barred off once you get the rune in the first Quake, right? I think I fucking started a new save and then beat the second episode without realizing it.

Can someone tell me any stories of how Q3A was back in the day?

I tried to get into QL but I just can't. No matchmaking, only FFA, Clan Arena, or Freeze Tag are popular, get ass ravaged by people who have been playing this game for years, servers are either completely dead or filled with way too many Goddamn people to be enjoyable, hitreg seems off (may possibly be the servers), community servers only, and so on. 25 hours and I can't deal with it any more. I wanna play an actually good AFPS

hitreg in Q3A is worse than QL and rocket arena/clan arena was always popular
also Q3 had jack shit for content on launch but later on it got some solid mods

I knew the hitreg was worse. Worse than Q2 and Q1?

Q2 and Q1 netcode has been improved nowadays with higher tickrate and stuff like lag compensation for Quakeworld. CPMA for Quake 3 is a big improvement to VQ3 netcode and is probably the best of the three.

There's a bug in the first Quake where you can lose a rune and have to redo the episode. You could cheat and get it back by typing 'impulse 11' in the console. But check which rune you got back when you do this.
