I think the main thing with MM's controls isn't the shaking itself, but how grabbing and throwing affects your physics, and how you can also throw with less or more strenght, making your trajectory get different results.
I don't think programming a game like this is easy.

Use the music of the stage as a metronome. Memorize what exact moment of the music matches with the start of the race and start dashing with the d-pad. Remember, it has a sort of timing to it, it's not pure mashing, if you try to mash too fast, you might lose an input and every input counts here.
