What is /vr/ nostalgic for?

>> No.3416864

The past?

Nostalgia is mainly based in the interesting quirk of the human brain that happy memories are much more easily accessed than unhappy ones

When understood, this can allow for not just pleasant reminiscing but also to guide one toward a happier day to day life

When misunderstood, it can lead to paralyzing depression.

Monster Party is really good.

While the NES gets a lot of praise for it's classics, I find that most games on the system are shitty or not worthwhile.

Monster Party, Gimmick!, Kirby's Adventure, Gun-Nac, Sweet Home, and Uforia are games that I think really stand out in the NES library as being very good.

This is now a Monster Party thread.

>Monster Party is really good.

I bought this game because I never played it before and it's bizarre all hell and I generally lean toward unusual our unique titles, even if flawed (not retro but Suda51 is a favorite perfect example what I love games). I played through it and while I really enjoyed it, it is really weak in some areas. I would love to play a rom hack that fixes some of the issues.

lol reflection and introspection aren't exactly autistic habits, though an infatuation with nostalgia certainly can be. It's basically a drug. A little goes a long way.

There's already a much more active thread with a better topic (NES censorship) that has a Monster Party OP and people discussing that game.

So yeah, this is basically a shit thread and I'm only more than happy to pre-emptively take the wind out of the sails of people who were all fired up to sit around circle jerking about how much they miss being a kid not getting to make any decisions for themselves.

I wouldn't say most NES games are shitty, but the ones you posted are definitely good.

To be fair, almost every system is comprised of mostly shit games; it's just the good ones are played and remembered more.

The only game that draws me back because of nostalgia is Pokémon Crystal. Everything else is because the game is actually really good. Not that Crystal isn't, it's just that its mechanics are very dated compared to everything that came after.

Saturday nights in the 80s, no school til monday. Just Saturday night WWF wrestling on NBC and Punchout or Bionic Commando on the NES. Simpler, comfy times.

So many great games on the NES/Famicom. Unfortunately I missed out on Monster Party. Man, I wish the NES mini let you have a choice of the games you wanted via download.

Some anon posted something about nostalgia that made a lot of sense, I don't recall exactly, but paraphrasing, nostalgia is not going back to something you liked as a kid constantly, nostalgia is a spontaneous, ephemeral mind trip that occurs when you're exposed to a memory from the past that you thought you had forgot until now. If you play Super Mario Bros. or Contra often, it's not because of nostalgia, it's because you legit like the game. You can't be nostalgic for something you've thought of in the past months.

However, it's possible to feel nostalgia for things that aren't that old. If you haven't thought about something for 3 or 5 years and you suddenly remember, you might find yourself nostalgic.
