Stop repeating this meme. That's one of the easier levels in the fucking game. You want the REAL worst part? Post the closing walls section from level 4, or the final hallway in level 6. Both are far more BS than the underwater level every e-celeb bitches about. It wasn't even hard when I was 6.

Here's the worst part of FF9. Forced minigame BS has always sucked ass. The CPR minigame in FF7 was boring as fuck, but this one manages to be even more boring. Why did they put this crap in there?

Mission 3 is just boring as fuck
Instead of having a fun underwater segment like alternate mission 1 where you get to use a slug, it's just "Shoot wall with pistol for 5 minutes because there's no fucking weapon drops and then do it again while trying to dodge missiles"
The indoor segment is just standard rebel shit and then a mech that isn't much fun to use, then you have the boss that's the easiest thing in the game and doesn't feel satisfying at all.

Yup. EJ2 was the first game I've owned. It annoyed me to no end. Not that the game was bad; it just had this forced variety of levels which I didn't really want or like.

For example, lvl 1 is just great—there are tons of different cool weapons, abilities, enemies, secrets, whatever. You learn the basic controls, physics, how to use Snott, etc.

But then comes Lorenzen's Soil, and you can only use one weapon in a level with pretty weird physics. OK, you think, maybe they just decided to give the player a slight break. And then you have Puppy Love.

By the time you beat it, you've probably grown hungry for just some more run & gun, if only to try all those fun weapons you had. But no! The devs decided it was time for Jim to turn into a different character and fly through a labyrinth lined with villi—again with different physics a la Balloon Fight (although I admit I kind of started to like it after dozens of plays). And level 5 is even further from all that! It's isometric shmup-like level where you have to bounce a fucking hot air balloon to the end of the stage, and try not to fuck it up with all the shit flying at you. And then, just to solidify the experience, you have ANOTHER Puppy Love.

I admit that the rest of the game has probably my favorite streak of stages—maybe aside from Udderly Abducted and, yeah, Puppy Love—again. But it's fucking ridiculous that exactly half of EJ2 is just some bullshit where you can't even shoot properly. The fucking irony of getting bonus weapons in Villi People which you barely even get a chance to use anywhere is just cruel.

I think you mean the harbor level, friend.

>> No.3411082

And a little bit to add to it, because I've played the game just a bit too much.

It'd be cool if all those different stages were good on their own. But only Villi People can do so—maybe because the devs did something slightly similar in EJ1. I'd maybe pick up a whole game made like it if I had nothing else to play. But I'd never in a hundred years buy a standalone Puppy Love-style game—the same goes for Lorenzen's Soil and Peter Pain. They are just gimmicky levels which don't work as well as, say, different parts of Wai Wai World 2.

The very last "battle" in the Sega CD version of The Terminator. It's depressing, such a fun run'n'gun platformer with great music ends on such a lame note. The entire rest of the game is combat on your terms. The final battle involves dropping yourself and the terminator in a certain pattern so you can go grab a rocket launcher without the terminator touching you and killing you. You can't kill the terminator before he reaches a certain point either. The final level was a weak point, but the final puzzle boss is lame as fuck.

No buttmonkey, I played that thing when I was 7 on an NES. I still easily got to the third level. I got stuck on a jump there, and didn't get past that until I revisited the game years later. And I beat that shit without save states. Level 2 is not that hard, unless you have difficulty remembering shit. It was hard to 5yo you, you gave up, you never got past an easy level, that doesn't make it hard. Levels 4-6 are designed to drain your health, and are full of traps and fucked enemy placements, they can be considered difficult. But they aren't the worst part of the game. The closing walls in level 4 can be BS, the final hallway is complete and total BS, level 2 is easy.

I'm glad that rare is taking a crack with 3d platformers with yooka laylee.
I had this weird spurt where i played banjo kazooie for sixish hours, or a whole day. Being super thourough to try and get 100 notes all the way to mad monster mansion. I died getting like 60 of them, then understood the frustration of having to collect another 60 all in one life.
I just let that be the note score, and when i went to the second to last level, which the wiki is telling me is rusty bucket bay, i just got bored. I understood that the game was just this for two more levels and ditched it. Might give banjo tooie a try but i don't see it happening.
I do like it as a mario 64 esk type game with way more personality. Also you can collect your jiggies and continue on with the level, instead of leaving it immediately.

That's a great question. I'm not familiar with the system tech but I imagine if they'd used a CD properly they could have at least come close. That game really showcases what the aging hardware was capable of. Several bossfights and songs even continue into new variations that many players probably never see if they finish too quickly. And the Mad Hatter is easily one of my favorite 16-bit boss fights. It's a real shame that the player is expected to slog through the shitty shmup section to get there.

I might just suck, but after recently replaying it I found getting a perfect note score in Click Clock Wood the hardest part of the game.

Too many ways to die (falling off the tree doesn't take that much damage but that shit adds up), four fucking variations of the level to search so that if you start over you're bound to forget a few of the locations of the notes, and a few requiring the use of feathers so if you ran out before reaching 100 you have to either kill yourself or search for more.

Everybody brings up Rusty Bucket Bay as the hard part but I must have cleared that in less than half the time by comparison.

Wood man requires some well timed sliding, and mashing off those search snakes like there's no tomorrow. The aim is to have him dead before he gets all the way to the left of the screen.

Quick man is utter bullshit, but thankfully gemini laser is his weakness, and you get a lovely slowdown effect when you've fired one off that makes it easier to dodge him. So, I'm talking about the parts that make you get hit with a fireball just after setting your foot in the room, not giving you a 1/10 of a second to dodge, and it seems to be kind of randomized (it's 50/50, the pillar shoots at 45 degrees or at 135, and one of them is a 99.99% chances of you being hit), stripping you of your health and powerups. Also, if you don't have your power-ups, then it takes a lots of hits to defeat the big armours, and they have some decent attack range, making you move backwards after your attacks or your safety. It's ok, but if it moves you back enough (which will probably happen if you don't have power-ups), the armour respawns after it's defeated, blocking your way again (it cannot be jumped-over).
Still glad that I've bought it, despite the knowledge that Adventure is considered to be the worst Castlevania ever.
