What are some good wild west retro games that involve cowboys/shootouts/saloons etc.
Also...What was the '80s arcade game where you play as a cowboy on a horse with an octagonal dial gun control, and you have to ride along the side of a train and shoot bad guys? Holy shit that was a fun game.

No actual cowboys featured in gameplay, but the game itself is most definitely western themed. I mean, your craft is a pistol with wings!

If you literally google "Western video games" you get a very accurate (albeit short, there aren't many westerns) list of the available games.

Since you require spoonfeeding:

>NES
>Gunsmoke
>Cowboy Kid
>The Lone Ranger
>Whomp Em (more indians than cowboys)

>SNES
>Sunset Riders (arcade version slightly better, good port though)
>Ganpuru Gunman's Proof
>Wild Guns
>Tinstar

Then theres stuff that's kind of spotty like Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman having a japanese/western mashup.

That's all I'm really aware of as far as retro. In terms of not retro

>GUN Xbox/360/PS2/GC/PC
>Red Dead Revolver PS2/Xbox
>Red Dead Redemption PS3/360
>Call of Juarez 360
>Samurai Western PS2(definitely kill a lot of Cowboys in this one)

I would strongly recommend GUN. It's short and sweet, but it's really fun and enjoyable, it's cheap as dirt on steam iirc.

There are some decent Lucky Luke games, like pic related or the SNES game.

But I think the most interesting is Western Fever for the PC. It's a shooting gallery game and looks surprisingly good. I also had no problems getting it to run on my PC.

BTW I found the arcade game I was describing in the initial post:
"Wild Western" (Taito)
This is a super fun shooter.
The rotary dial for aim/shoot really set it apart.

But...Boot Hill is based on a game from 1975 called Gun Fight, or Western Gun.
