I've realised this board is utterly dead. There's no real reason to post here for me anymore. It's the same thing over and over again. Occasionally a game is posted about that I like, and then I'll spend some time regurgitating the same old shit. I'm starting to feel like NESfag almost, that dude is always on repeat. What's the point /vr/? I'm gonna go now. BYE

I have been here since the beginning and yeah a lot of shit does get repeated but its a slow enough board you dont have to really be here every hour to keep up with it. Just make good original threads, I have made a few that turned out well. I do wish there was more people here though, this placed used to be way more active and we had challenge threads and the like was there a ban wave or something like a year ago.

About a month or two ago, a bunch of totally on-topic threads started getting deleted left and right. You'd make a thread that was fresh and engaging then after it took off, janitors would come along and delete it. I think that a lot of the core posters got pissed off about that. I know I did.

Just check out the archive and you can see it. Basically, it seemed like there was some attempt to make this board look good to a cursory glance but to stifle meaningful content. It happened at the same time that other major boards were suffering worse fates.

The word is that 4chan is being polished up to be sold off. Moot has some girlfriend with the classic gold digging agenda and she's a feminist to boot. Don't be surprised when this thread gets deleted too.

Don't cl/ebay/reseller general threads get deleted?

I really think stuff like that should stay. The collecting part of retrogaming, with its ups and downs, is really the most evolving part of the hobby. To be honest, laughing at specific instances of dumb resellers or people recounting tales of the time they met some weird meth-head/hillbilly/murderer/whatever when buying an arcade cab or whatever the hell else happens is probably more fun and relevant to modern day retrogaming than endless threads arguing over the quality of Yoshi's Island, explaining RGB, bitching about filters, singing the praise of filters, or arguing over when GBA will be retro.

I can see why reseller type threads get deleted, but there is really only so much to say about most retrogames and I wouldn't be surprised if we get a lot of people who are just passing through to sell something, ask about an emulator issue, or see if there newest Goodwill buy is "worth something" instead of regularly contributing.

Maybe we should aim for more community projects, competitions, and stuff like that. A /vr/ community-made Super Mario World level pack would be nice. Maybe we've tried something like this and I just never paid attention or forgot or missed it altogether or it was before my start at this board.

>>2167019
It was slowing down for the reasons OP brought up, but it was still healthy. However, when over-aggressive moderation hits a slow board with a small core of quality content it can be extremely devastating.

Maybe it'll recover, I haven't completely given up on it but I haven't bothered to start a new thread in quite a while. I have been coming back around to giving full answers to people who have legitimate questions though.

No shit retard, this is a board devoted to retro games i.e. games that have already been out for a long time. Occasionally something foreign or forgotten is discovered, but if you've been hanging around expecting new releases and second by second shitposting, you should fuck off back to /v/. This is a chill little place devoted to gaming history, nostalgia, collecting friendly game related chatter and recommendations and most of us like it fine that way.
Now mods, kindly delete this thread.

Yeah, but the Janitor/Mod is still going apeshit on battlestation and collection threads for some fucking reason.

But the thing is, we've got a bunch of new mods. New mods are always the worst because they fuck everything up.

The mod would just delete the threads for some reason. /vr/ would have to start emailing moot about whomever is fucking up this board, and appeal to him to get it stopped before /vr/ could recover. Battlestation threads were becoming something kinda nice. It was new content, at least.

Been here since the first day. And yeah, I actually started coming to 4chan as a whole less frequently after that, given that /vr/ was probably 75% of my traffic here. Still love all you guys though.

Yet somehow the Nick Arcade thread is still up despite devolving into a discussion of which underage contestant is more attractive.

>> No.2167130

The main problem with /vr/ is, at its inception, everyone wanted it to be the anti-/v/: no more hating video games, no more rabid fanboyism, just bros who enjoy vidya.

The problem is it worked TOO well. If you're too kind to everyone and spoonfeed, your board ends up filling up with plebs that regurgitate the same thoughts, stories, and opinions endlessly and nothing new or meaningful is created. Plebs also cannot voice or take any meaningful criticism and stay in the safezone of Mario, Zelda, Megaman, etc, like a teenager who thinks classic rock & metal are the pinnacle of music, but more pathetic.

That, and of course, Moot being a cunt.

it's not that I looked into what people have been saying it's true 4chan is kill. They fucked up a lot of boards, deleted posts left right and centre. The problem is it leaked into our precious board too, I really have been here since the beginning I remember the guy who sold his first model PS1 with the good DAC 10K, or how he soldered his genesis games to play on SNES or getting his N64 to play SNES games at 60fps. https://archive.moe/vr/thread/831170/#831170 That was a /vr/ classic and something like that would never happen anymore because mods a shit. It really does sadden me to see this place go to shit, the past years have been awesome. I was into retro gaming before /vr/ but stopped with it for a while once this board was created it got me back into retro gaming hardcore and I would not have a sega saturn or pc engine for sure I knew lots about them before but /vr/ inspired me to actually hunt them down and they weren't too elusive. /vr/ reminded me why I loved retro gaming why I loved playing retro with my friends or brother or even alone. I actually just come to realize what people have been saying about this site is true. I just wish they could have left our board alone cause all we wanted to do was talk about old games. :(
