Reflection Maps On EVERYTHING: The Game

Everything is so shiny you can go blind!

It seems to me that's all the N64 expansion pack actually did. The only function that thing had was to make stuff reflective and make Donkey Kong 64 magically work.

iirc DK64 actually was a normal N64 game that however had a game breaking glitch that COULD make it crash randomly- or not at all, as with all these sneaky little bugs. That did however not occur with expanded RAM. Rare never really figured out WHY but THAT it behaved this way. Since they already knew that Perfect Dark would come next, which definitely needed the expansion pak, they figured that it would be best to keep the glitch and just add the Expansion Pak as a bundle, it being required later anyway.

>oh didnt pd run in 480i? Im pretty sure it did
No.

NTSC-
320x222 Low. 640x222 High.
PAL-
320x268 Low. 448x268 High.

Very few N64 games ran at 480i. Even Factor 5 games may or may not actually run at 480i.

Also, I think Vigilante 8's ultra high resolution option might be 480i.

>> No.2136589

It does have the option yes. But you'll get to unplayable framerates esp. if you play the campaign at the harder levels (the AIs become advanced enough to eat CPU cycles I suppose)

I don't know what you're talking about. There aren't that many shiny things in Perfect Dark. Not in the sense of using that metallic "objects always reflect the sky even when indoors" effect, I think it's a cubemap. I know Goldeneye uses it for the magnum, golden gun, knives, etc. but I don't remember it much in Perfect Dark.

I just fired PD up and there are those glossy maps on quite a few things in the first level. Your gun, all the glass, on certain sides of the fancy wooden doors, on the metal trim and the struts outside the building. Never bothered me though. If anything is "blinding" in PD it's those overbright light halos everywhere.

What happened /vr/?
In this game from 2000, you can:
>Shoot guns out of enemies hands
>When disarmed, enemies either pull out a new gun, attack physically, run, or surrender
>Play with a wide variety of simulants
>Use every weapon in two modes
>Customize your character albeit crudely
>Difficulty levels change objectives
>See worse when poisoned/confused/etc
>Find a piece of cheese in every level

I thought this was going to be a standard when I was a kid, but it's just as rare as it was then...

>> No.2138787

>>2138785

Disarming enemies is kinda gimmicky for an FPS and it only matters for the PA objective in Carrington Villa. But more objectives being added on higher difficulty levels should definitely have become a standard thing, it made the game so much more interesting on higher levels.

Yes, it is very good. Ignore the whiny naysayers. People who compare it to Call of Duty are fucking retarded. The game has a heavy stealth focus and has very similar game mechanics to the Metro games. GoldenEye Wii is a Eurocom Bond game. Yet somehow people expect it to play like a Rareware game? Why? Why should respected James Bond developer Eurocom change their style to make their game resemble a Rareware one? Goldeneye Wii is (loosely) based on the god-tier film, not Rareware's game.

That said, the writing in GoldenEye Wii is shit. Thanks, Bruce "AND THEN BOND SOLVED ALL HIS PROBLEMS WITH HIS FUCKING PHONE" Feirstein. He pissed all over the fantastic movie. NONE of the film's iconic lines are in the game. The characters are all ruined. (Except for Bond himself.)

I liked disarm because honestly, melee weapons don't stand a chance against any gun without some sort of gimmick. Punches bluring vision of opponents or disarming them was a great addition, even if getting someone into a corner and punching them to death became incredibly frustrating when dealing with a blurry screen for a bit.

Still not as bad the time a buddy of mine got stuck in an N-Bomb for a while, I had thrown them into a small room as proxy mines and he was so disoriented he couldn't find his way out.
