Useful tips:

- The music is updated for battles, turn your music on if you like FF4 music (there are also some cameo tracks like Battle on the Big Bridge from FF5!)
- Classes are totally retooled and rebalanced. They draw from FF4, 5, 6 and Final Fantasy Dimensions
- You don't unlock classes by fighting Archimus anymore, over and over. You can unlock them all in one playthrough if you have the right setup.
- The Message of the Day contains a world map and a list of classes, as well as a metric fuckton of useful information for your adventure. It's basically the FAQ, so I'd suggest reading it

A big mechanic in the game you should look into is stat allocation. First calculate your stats at level 99 (Extra > Calculate Stats), you'll get your HP, MP and stats at level 99. If a stat reaches 99, don't put points into it because you will reach 99 naturally, and that is the cap for stats. So knowing your stats at 99 will allow you to decide how to allocate your 20 bonus points (Extra > Stat Allocation). 20 in total, not per stat. Note that clicking the CANCEL button here will actually cause you to randomize your stat gains (which is the default). You basically get +.01 points in a random stat every time you kill a monster, and selecting a stat allows you to focus those points into the stat you choose. Predictably it requires 100 monsters to gain +1 point, so 2000 altogether to get the 20 maximum points. These can be reset in the cave north of Damcyan, but you have to grind kills again to put your points back in.

I'm fine with the dragoon magic and stuff like that but the encounter rate being more than tripled almost ruins the game.

Its not fun having to stomp a group of enemies every 3 seconds and running away is nigh impossible unless you have dejon or teleport so by the time you reach the boss you just kill him in one or two turns because you're so overleveled from all the encounters.

Admin won't change the encounter rate unless he's REALLY cool, as well.

That's because the HP values for classes have been adjusted. Nothing you know from the game previously really applies because all the classes were rebalanced. That includes weapons, too. In general, you are actually a lower level than you would be in the old version of the game. You used to be level 55 leaving the underworld, you should be reaching around level 50 by the time you exit the underworld now. Giant of Babil and the moon will cause a lot of problems for you if you're unprepared.

The encounter rate has not been changed, ever. It's exactly the same as it's always been. It's actually a tremendous pain in the ass to change.

Szen, lower the encounter rate. It's really stupid. Make the game be as difficult as the moon without having to resort to forcing everyone to waste their time.

When we created this version we put a lot of emphasis on being in a party. If you play with two characters it's much, much more difficult.

That being said we're open to still adjusting the balance of the game. The reason it's slow is because both the coder and I work full-time so it's challenging to get time to balance everything like we want to. If you've got legitimate suggestions I don't mind hearing them, we can try to work on them too.

This is something I do in my free time for fun though, it takes time to do balancing updates because there's a lot of testing involved.

Well, when I started the game yesterday, I got set into just doing a paladin, and loved since they ARE versatile, though they seem very common. However, I've ended up using other classes when trying to help new players. A

Monk can be fun, but tricky to use. The kick doesn't always work, and of course, you have to know know what every enemy is weak to. Regardless, I had fun with it

I haven't played a Lunarian, but they seem solid. Spirtwave helps them regenerate MP, so they can keep being the spell casters they are.

I talked to one of the creators earlier, and he said dark knights were underrated, so that might be worth a try.

Though, honestly, try stuff out and see what you like. I've been on the most unbalanced teams imaginable and still whooped some ass

This game looks interesting, though I have never played a Final Fantasy game other than Final Fantasy 6 for about two hours, or really any turn based role playing game enough to call it experience. 1: The friendliness probably depends on the starting class, in most MMOs the support ones are usually more difficult than DPS classes, and doing shit solo is a pain even with some DPS classes. Anyways, you will learn with time if you like it. try to level a bit in the beggining then ask for a party or something maybe some high level has a little one that can help you.
2: Sadly I can't play today or tomorrow at night maybe. I would even make another character, my current one is at 39.
3: You're on your own, but you have the option to Make or Join a party (and probably you will need it later or sooner) the leader con change the current leader and everyone can open the item menu and use items, magic and those things on anyone.
The leader also controls the direction of the party, and if the leader opens a chest everyone will get the item. also you have to control your character in the battle, BUT I think that soloing the timer stops when you are choosing any skill magic, with people the combat is ATB system. Also there's an implement row system like in the original, people in the back row receive less damage, and makes less damage, but if you use a ranged weapon or magic it bypasses the penalty.
4: The map is quite similar to the original, and the normal bosses are like the ones from FFIV, they have probably secret bosses from other FFs but It's my first character so I don't know. I only read something about beating Gilgamesh by some high levels.

PS: If you gonna try the game, learn about stats allocation, the extra button menu helps you to decide what stats you will give extra points. Check the thread, because someone earlier talked about it.

The game is kinda slow honestly in the w-chat, but the vrbros chatbox was quite active last night before I left and everyone is super friendly and laid back. I had a lot of fun partying with a white mage yesterday and we eventually busted through Cagnazzo with a larger party and made it to Zot tower, although they didn't get to finish. The map is the same as the original with some changes, but things aren't too difficult to figure out honestly. I have a mature summoner around level 39 and I have a level 19 bard, so if anyone needs help or feels like partying up, just hit me up in the chat. I will probably make another character later today. I know we had a good group of new people last night and we helped those further ahead by trying to get them into contact with other newbies--we had a pretty full fledged party set up of one group before Mist Cave. Granted it was a White/Black Twin, a Lunarian, and a Bard, but they still kicked some ass.

It's possible to solo -- I know I did up to the first Elemental fiend, but I'd think you'd need a party for Cagnazzo. That dungeon is long and most solo boss fights will be spent using potions and/or ethers then swapping back.to attacking. It can be really tedious at first, especially when you don't have as much gold.

Holy shit, I played the original ages ago. Does it still suffer from "BYOND lag"? Apparently its fixable through one single variable, but I can't remember which.

Byond works by taking your exact inputs and sending them to the server, and the server parrots them. This works slightly differently to most online server technology, it isn't as accurate but in return it's easy as shit to get up and running.

In order to "fix" it you'd need to either be on a 0\1ms latency connection to the server or entirely reprogram how the client interfaces with the server.

If you want to minimise the stuttering then slow down on your inputs and get the best possible connection to the server, closer the proximity\faster the connection the less you'll notice it.

There's actually a variable (or some shit) in BYOND's code that modifies the rate on which the server and client exchange information. I learned about that from that guy that worked on Bro Online and that Stalker-like game in BYOND back in 2009(?). I checked out his test server for the Stalker game only to see all the characters move smoothly across the map instead of teleporting as always. To this day I have never seen anything like that in a BYONG game, even when run on localhost.
