So I just beat this for the very first time, and overall I found it to be pretty mediocre in all honesty.
I still enjoyed running through it, but it didn't near enough live up to its reputation for me.
Anyways, SMRPG thread?

>> No.1492723

I love the game because it's just fun. It's not difficult at all, especially if you level-up a decent amount.

I grew up playing it, so when I play it, all my childhood memories come flowing back. Perhaps that's why it's one of my favorite games.

SMRPG is great because of how crazy of a concept it was back then. Also the graphics were mindblowing back in its day, the music is also fucking great.

No not the forest theme, fuck that shit. We gotta get something good.

Anon said it best here. It really is just a downright fun game. Every scene of the game just makes me want to smile. I can fondly remember being a kid and going on this amazing Mario adventure and just being blown away by it all. It was what got me into RPGs and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

I honestly love all the Mario RPGs though. Hell I even managed to enjoy Sticker Star.

It is pretty mediocre in many ways. However, the great graphics and music at least put it into the "should complete it at least once" category. I was never blown away by this game, but its got its good points.

My biggest complaint is that only the first part of the game feels like Mario, and has Mario looking zones. That's really the game's strongest part. After that, it just kind of meh.

Doesn't even fit in the top 10 SNES RPGs IMHO.

But I guess that Mario + Final Fantasy sounded extremely cool back then.

Super Mario RPG was great because it paced the game with a consistent amount of surprises.

Between the usual pattern of Dungeon and town, there was minigame after another, and puzzles that took the most advantage of the isometric design.

That's probably what is most interesting about the game. It has Mario's characters and style, but it's primarily by an outside party (Squaresoft) so it is their own interpretation. It's a sort of wacky, one-off vision of Mario's universe.

Best place to grind is that Dry Bones inside the Sunken Ship—the one in the room with the coin box and merchant.
Enter a battle with it; have Geno wipe out the monsters with his magic; repeat. Use the Exp. Booster Ring and the nearby healing room and you can get your characters to level 25 FAST.
