I fixed mine up a week ago. Hooked it up, expecting the A/V cord to be shot. The light went on and the screen was black, so I figured "cool, at least it still powers up". Then after about 3 seconds of darkness that intro screen fired up (with the TV up too loud). Pic related is pretty much how I felt.

Between Oculous Rift and Google Glass I agree that we're at the beginning of a bold new age of being always somewhat immersed and sometimes entirely immersed in the virtual world - and this is coming from the 90s nerd lion.

Like, back then I met that first fat girlfriend of mine on AOL and let me tell you, the girls you met online in the mid 90s were very very different than the ones you can meet now plus it was pretty normal for people to have 0-5 pictures of themselves online plus only weird girls got online.

Back then, if a girl had 5 pics she might be bordering on a crazy narcisist slut. Nowif a girl only has five pictures she's definitely gross. Soon, if you can't more or less immediately teleconference with any girl you meet online it'll be cause for suspicion.

Thank God that there were hot girls who were hot for the top nerds back then. I give all the credit to Death of Superman. That was the moment when everyone started caring about nerd culture, but the Playstation definitely did its part as well.

That's funny, the PSX era is when I decided videogames had died; I bought a Saturn early, and watched it choke in NA. They were coming out with shit like Contra in 3D and almost all 3D games looked like shit and had terrible camera problems. I went back to the NES after a few years of that shit. Yeah. Tried it. My main complaints were that the lag and graphics seemed to be only a marginal improvement over Virtuality. Maybe that's my memory playing tricks on me but the point is that until you have a virtually lag free system it's just a gimmick. No one will want to play it for any length of time. Sure the gadget mag guys who have never seen anything else before will rave about it but at the end of the day it's not yet ready for prime time.
