i would say it's near perfect. SSF and Mednafen have the best compatibility, other popular emulators still have some glitches and slowdowns in some games, including Kronos but it seems to be the only one which upscales resolution.

there are a lot of good games in english depending on what genres you like. dragon force, deep fear, sega rally, die hard arcade, the list actually goes on.

It's pretty good now. Mednafen is considered the most accurate but you need some sort of frontend for it unless you want to run it from command line.
You can use it through Beetle Saturn in RetroArch and I've read that BizHawk's Saturn core is also based on Mednafen though I haven't tried it so I don't know if it's good

I played this for the first time last year.
I only recommend it for Landstalker fans and only if you're curious.
I'm not sure I'm crazy about how Climax turned it in to this odd 'speedrunning' platformer with branching endings.

Thnk of a line drawn at an angle on a computer screen. It isn't drawn as a line but a series of pixels that are either on top of each other or to the left/right and are squares. The resulting line is jagged because of this. On a small resolution the end points are closer together so teh groupings of stacked pixels is more apparent but if the line is much longer it "smoothes" out naturally. Antialiasing does much the same job with smaller resolutions by filling in the jaggies withg lighter colours to give the appearance of smoothness but at large resolutions its' not as necessary. Emulation increases the resolution making all the lines that form 3D models etc. longer and "smoother". With textures the saved image is either a high enough resolution that when applied to the new mesh it looks good, or the emultor scales it in memory before applying. This is why resident evil and games with a prerendered background don't look any better without work because increasing the resolution only scales the image - it's not applied to a 3D model.

There's a lot more to it than that but this is it in a basic form.

no it fucking doesnt. each story builds on the next with Garian even remembering events from previous parallels as dreams and each parallel has a bunch of completely unique areas and battles

the implication is that Garian was frozen in carbon(which is alluded in the game as it being a punishment that causes people to have endless nightmares) for murdering the child and the game are Garian's endless nightmares on a loop imagining what it would be like he if he had not done it

you can't make sense of the game in a single parallel. for instance in parallel 1 you see Kay hanging for her life above the billanium vat and you wonder how a pro ninja would just slip and fall. In parallel 2 with the help of Drizzit you get to the vat faster catching up with Kay causing her to flee when she spots you so instead it's you and Drizzit who take her spot falling into the vat which is now revealed to happen by someone activating a machine that pushes you into it. Finally in parallel 3+4 it's revealed who was pushing the switch. The game is full of stuff like that, it's not a matter of "alternate endings"

It's a yabause fork, which is like the 2nd most buggy emulator after girigiri (which came out 20 years ago). Chances are this is the only game it can upscale without a crazy amount of visual glitches or outright crashing.

I recall reading people started seeing make up on some old horror movies only a few years after they were released because of newer projectors.
There are also similar reports of cinema salons only showing like 720p quality in 2000s. I'm not sure whether that just applies to digital.

There's one where the match is an horse even though it really seems like the mural depicts a bull/ox. The analogy is pretty much perfect as rasterization is the process of converting the mathematical information (vectors) depicting the shapes and forms of the 3D models to a 2D pixel grid image, the same way the photosensitive cells of a camera converts the continuum of light if absorbs into a discreet pixel image.

Textures however are already a discreet grid of color data so higher resolutions do not improve quality.

Have you never changed resolution in a 3D game on PC before? Emulation allows you do that untethered from the original graphics hardware. The assets are the same, still streamed from the disc/image/ROM, you can just seem them more clearly and precisely. This can/does have glitches, depending, and the methods for doing this vary between emulated machines. Sometimes it's done by abstracting the video hardware through your graphics card, sometimes it's done via low level emulation over the CPU.

The game has some hidden mechanics with the enemy capturing too. Bottom of this FAQ, the guy actually did the work and figured out which enemies can capture with other enemies, and the few cases where you can end a battle by capturing in the first round.

Parallel ? is something you also get when you're in seabandits so it's not like it was put in the game specifically for "parallel 6".

When you beat parallel 5 the game doesn't actually loop after credits like it usually does so I take it as the final bonus endings. There's japanese guides of the game talk about the 5 parallels.

Garian going back in time seems like just a somewhat contrived way to get around the Tracy bad game over ending after you play it since saving Kay is essential to keep the parallel 2 story going(unlike drizzit which is not essential for parallel 1 since he even ends up dying regardless). It would suck having to restart parallel 2 from the very beginning after Tracy kills you.
It's not even clear that it's Jack explicitly using his magic powers, Jack asks you the questions of what you wanna do but the "going back in time" only happens after Garian confesses to Tracy (with Jack not really being part of the conversation) with the real trigger being garian lamenting how he could have perhaps saved her and wishing he could go back in time. I take this as Garian willing it himself which """makes sense""" since the whole game is implied to be happening in his dreams while trapped in carbon.

Anyway, the original 6th parallel rumors with jack being the villain and all that came way back when(when saturn emulation wasn't really a thing) of someone claiming they played the japanese version. Nowadays anyone can readily emulate the jap version to check and see that it's the same game minus some censored graphics here and there.

There probably isn't a 6th parallel and if there was supposed to be one then it was probably cut given the images we have of unused content. But there are enough tidbits in the dialogue to hint at the plot development, most of it centering around Jack (and yes he is the one who turns back time, along with saying some very cryptic lines in other scenes about Garian being in a sort of endless purgatory). That said, Japanese gamers barely know anything about the game from what I've read online. I don't think they've even discovered the calculator function. A player tried to backtrack in parallel 2 (NA version, https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/197050-dark-savior/80159416)) and ran into a lot of bugs. If there is a 6th parallel, or the remains of one in game, it's probably in the JP version. Either way, it's a fascinating vidya mystery for an obscure game with a butchered NA version.
