They did LttP first mostly because they thought that was going to be the last episode at the time. Zelda 1 & 2 might be too hard for Arino, but the later ones didn't really make for great episodes. Some types of games work better on TV than others.

One potion, more limited types of weapons, 72 straight hours of Arino bombing and burning every square of every screen trying to find dungeons and secrets. I bet he'd even hit the death cap (255 IIRC).

>> No.1042538

>>1042529
The biggest difference lies in how the experience system works. Attack, Magic, and Health all require the same amount of experience to level up. The Western version has Attack require more experience than Magic to level up, which requires more than Health. Theoretically, this makes leveling up Attack easier. However, if you die, all your levels go down to the component of the lowest level. So if you have Attack at 8, Magic at 6, and Health at 2, they ALL go down to 2.

>> No.1042540

>>1042526
Zelda 1 is way harder than Zelda 3, in basically every way. You don't knock enemies back when you hit them (or rather, if you hit them, since the stab is pathetic compared to LttP's swing), you only get one potion and no bottled faeries, goddamn wizrobes deal a million damage, etc.

Question:

It's pretty well known that Karnov is a radically different game in it's different versions (arcade vs. Famicon vs. NES). Do people favor using the item/enemy names from the NES version, or translating what the Famicon version says?

I noticed that you used "power ball" instead of Super Fireball...it might be a case by case thing. Super Fireball might be better there, but "Clapper" reads like a censored / less cool version of God's Rage. A lot of the joy even heavy Karnov fans will gain from the translation will be the unique localization. "Ladder" is fine as is, as is Boomerang. But maybe the Mask has a special name? The items themselves are "Options" in the US, is there a different Nipponese name?

>> No.1044250

>>1044241
I remember people complaining about when groups use an English word different from the one clearly being used in the speech (subbing 'health' when they clearly say 'life'), so I stuck to 'power ball', especially since his powers are magic from God, not fireballs he shoots from his mouth.

I'd like to use the English words, but given how different they are, I'll likely either piss off the people who want the episode translated as is, the people who want NES version terms used, or people who hate the mish-mash of both terms.

IMO there's no reason to start watching with random episodes. This is how you localize / translate / punch up / edit in a writer's room environment, or the result of it. Transliterating a comedian/comedy program requires a group effort in order to make things hilarious when they're supposed to be.

>>1051026
I'm pretty sure they're all over there. Try searching for those keywords on Google with the additional term site:2chan.(whatever2chanis) They link to pretty much everything on both Perfect Dark and Share on there. I believe I looked before for those episodes when you provided more characters and found they were everywhere. You need to add encrypted nodes to Perfect Dark. Look for the benfri or benlo or something like that benri maybe, that site that explains PD and Share. He has the latest nodes for both programs and tells you where to put them, it won't work without them...and you can't download until you've done that and also let it download 2 GB of random anime.

>> No.1052986

No, Arino fails to learn a lot of the intricacies of the game, which makes it a lot harder than it should be.
It's like when he plays Donkey Kong Country without rolling ever.

>> No.1052989

I've played a shitton of it on the DS.

It's a roguelike. So yes it is challenging, not as much as Nethack or Crawl or anything but you do die a lot and a lot of stuff in the game is built around dying and going back through the same areas multiple times.

I wouldn't say it's really hard, not like a hard platformer/action game is hard, it's pretty smooth sailing if you're patient and think things through.

He used volunteers for a 900-page book? That's a little bit frightening. It doesn't necessarily excuse it, but it certainly explains it. Given the length and the amount of facts that would need to be checked, a pro probably would've cost him well into five figures.

But yeah, he couldn't afford a professional proofreader, so he asked on the SA forums for "volunteers to help out with a GCCX-related project" and got some people to give it a lookover.

Obviously, since it was 900 pages, and no one was getting paid, their work was kinda halfassed, but it's better than nothing. As you say, a professional would not have been cheap.

I mean, SAGCCX stopped working on The Magical Quest episode, just because LCGCCX released their own translation. Most importantly of all, they are on friendly terms nowadays, so what's the point of reminding what happened in the past, it doesn't matter now.

In the end, anybody that works on a project like this has to be able to deal with drama, because projects naturally attract drama, and there's no way around that. As much as people wish everybody would just get along, it's just not happening. Finally on season 9. He's showing off "Retro Game Master" in France. When you hear the announcer in the background it's almost cringe worthy. He sounds like a guy that's doing step by step instruction on how to use photoshop. I had to pause the video because I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

The superior part comes right after when he wants to endear himself to a Taiwanese woman so he tells her "I love you" in Korean...since all other Asians apparently look alike to the Chief. Of course, not only had he just been informed she was Taiwanese, but also an important producer interested in the rights to the show.

Found it, thanks.

I was fast-forwarding through the raw on my DVR and stopped after they gave him the big picture, so I didn't see the bit when they give him the fax from zari-gani before I posted >>>>1060001. I watched it now, and Arino says

"二ナより。。。うわ、日本語やん"
to which Kan says
”はい。日系の方だと思います”

Google Translate mangles those lines, but the subs on the stream I watched here are 100% accurate. There's no insult.

There's no insult, calling someone 日系/Nikkei is about as offensive as saying some is from any other ethnic background.

I don't know much about Exile members, but half-Japanese people are usually referred as "halfs" (haafu) unless they specify differently. It's more polite that 'konketsu', which means 'mixed blood' and is an older term.

Oh I laughed like hell at that part as well. He also said that to the little boy in the game shop which I found to be even funnier. The reason I laughed so hard was because I was able to get the whole show subed. So since I avoided the dub version I didn't really know how bad it really was. Thought it was really strange they tried to sell it by naming him "The Kacho" but since I've seen it from the start I would think changing anyone's name would be strange.

So it turns out that TV-N plopped out a new release, but nobody outside their special little bubble noticed it for TWO MONTHS despite the drought of releases elsewhere.

Seemingly unaware of SA's work, they've gone and made their own version of episode #12, Takeshi's Castle. To save you guys the hassle of watching it, and to bring this thread up to the bump limit, how about an image comparison dump?

You're not particularly familiar with TVN, are you?
They're currently also doing bimonthly-ish releases of Zyuranger, which has been fully, and far more competently, translated for over a year. This is pretty up their alley.

IT'S RIGHT THERE ON THE GOD DAMN SCREEN. I've ragged on this before with the SA team, which managed to screw something as simple as that up too in the Capcom Quiz episode. I'll never understand how you can make mistakes like that.

Did some anon have a download link for Fantastic Plastic Machine - Too (2003)?

For those who didn't know, this album have 2 songs featured on the Game Center CX show.

I manage to find 3 albums from these guys, but this one is really hard to find.
