10232029 No.10232029 [Reply] [Original]

Saturn is cool when you think of it not as of a mainstream console like PS1, which it tried to become but failed, but as of a PC Engine successor. Shmups, 2D fighter ports, original hidden gems etc. Japanese Saturn that is.

I played SNES and Genesis at friends’ houses in the mid 1990’s. I got an N64 in 1997. Played N64 and PS1 at multiple friends’ houses for years after. Eventually played Dreamcast at multiple friends’ houses from 1999 onwards.

While PS1 has plenty of pick up and play titles, Saturn excels in this. Skippable FMVs, brief second long intros, snappy menus, quick load times, It is the complete opposite of N64 which despite the speed of load times take their sweet time to get properly started, from minute long openings that don't know when to end, the selection being so limited and played out, it's a slog to even get into many n64 games. Not to mention the fact they're designed for very young children as their first 3D games, Saturn however has a higher difficulty and expects more from the player on average making it a way more satisfying console to game on. Maybe N64 games pay off more after 20 hours of play, and in 1998, but in 2023 my time is too valuable and I need to get into the action right away.

Alright, buckle up, folks. You may think the Sega Saturn is just a normal console, but let me tell you, it's so much more than that. There's some serious paranormal shit going on here.
Picture this: it's the mid-90s, and Sega is struggling to keep up with their rival, Sony's PlayStation. So what do they do? They create the Sega Saturn, a console unlike any other. But here's the thing, only a select few were able to play it. And those who did? They experienced something otherworldly.
See, the Sega Saturn wasn't just a piece of technology. It was a manifestation of the oniric realm itself. The console was a portal to a different dimension, a way for us mere mortals to interact with the unearthly. And only a few paladins, those who were worthy, were able to truly comprehend its power.
But what made the Saturn so special? Why was it such a conduit to the paranormal? Well, there are a few reasons. First off, the Saturn had a dual-processing architecture, which allowed it to handle complex calculations and graphics. And let me tell you, that kind of power is not of this world.
But that's not all. The Saturn also had some seriously trippy games. Take a look at "Nights into Dreams," for example. That game was all about lucid dreaming, a concept that is very much connected to the paranormal. And don't even get me started on "Panzer Dragoon." That game had some seriously otherworldly visuals.
So there you have it, folks. The Sega Saturn was not just a piece of tech. It was a paranormal manifestation of the oniric realm, and only a chosen few were able to experience its power. If you missed out on playing the Saturn in the 90s, well, you missed out on a truly supernatural experience.

90% of kids didn't have regular access to game magazines and their family's lived on a budget. The only time they ever see advertisements is when they go to the grocery store and see the magazine section. Their family could only afford 1 game system for the kids and usually only around Christmas time or birthdays. Maybe the parents take their kids to the mall beforehand to see what they like at the local game store. Not buy anything but observe what the kid wants. Or speak to Gamestore employee to see what is popular with kids. Nintendo and Playstation had far larger marketing budgets and sold way more than Saturn. Parents want to buy their kids what's popular so they feel included with other kids. So Christmas rolls around and bam a Nintendo 64 is under the Christmas tree. The young son is super excited and is told to make sure he shares it equally with his brother and sister.
