My aunt worked for Nokia back then and brought hers over to show it off, never let me play it for more than a few minutes and told me to have my dad give her $200 if I want one. Wanted to tell her to fuck off because we both knew the answer to that

I did buy my own QD for about $60 around 2009 but it was hard to juggle time for it when PSP and DS were my main handhelds

The fact thr n gage has its body, display and buttons laid out exactly like goatse is insane.

The Dreamcast of 2000s handhelds.

>Was this ahead of its time?
Yes, but nokia half assed it unfortunately. It's just a generic nokia 40 series turned into a gameboy like device. There are a ton of improvements it could've used.
>landscape mode screen
>softer buttons
>3D acceleration
>slightly bigger battery
>shoulder buttons

>>10147675
>Quite decent for a handheld at that point if you wanted any battery life
They could've used a weaker, more power efficient CPU and a simple 3D accelerator that gives it some PS1 graphics capability, like the NDS.

The only handheld I ever had. Remember some snowboarding and skatrboarding games being fun on it, but not much else.

I own one. I've dreamed of it even since I've first saw it on release, so I've bought myself one about five years ago. Original, not QD.
I'm using it as a phone and music player, though I still need to figure out how to connect 3.5 jack to it properly. I guess, all the 2.5 to 3.5 thingamabobs I have are just not quite correct, since they only have two connectors, while original Nokia headphones had three, just like any other headphones out there. Either that or something's wrong with the phone itself.
Either way, I think it was ahead of the time, but it failed partially because the games still required cartridges back then - Androids benefit tremendously from having their games in digital format - and partially because io what >>10148004 said - probably because Nokia guys just didn't quite knew how to put the whole thing together - once again, it was ahead of its time after all, so it was something new and untested.
If you'll search the web, you will find some very interesting gaming-oriented mods for these phones - the analogue stick mod is probably the most popular one.
Not sure if I'll ever hardmod mine, I'd rather just repair it one day and make it look fresh.
And even though I do not plan to play games on it, I do want to play several on the emulator. I definitely gotta try Rifts: Promise of Power. among others, because it is pretty much the only Rifts game out there.

Terrible screen, awful d-pad, you had to remove the cunting battery to change games (at least on the first model), side-talking and it looks like goatse.

I own two of these fucking things.

Pocket Kingdom is a legit fun game.

Call of Duty is interesting if you love awful ports.
Ashen is a fascinating novelty for about twenty minutes. The Elder Scrolls game is in the same vein.

System Rush is kinda playable I guess.

That's it. It's not a platform of hidden gems by any stretch. It's collector's piece for people who like odd failures.

>Have I ever told you guys the story behind the N-Gage? I worked with an engineer who was on that team.
>The whole project was mismanaged to fucking hell and was basically Nokia going "video games" and then "but we make cell phones" and the guys in charge were told to shove a Gameboy in a cell phone.
>The industrial engineer kept on sending design proposals to upper management over and over and they kept getting rejected for not having enough dumbass buttons and by the end it needed like 25 buttons to please them so the dude, as a stress relief thing, made a joke throwaway design and then shortly afterwards, changed projects.
>When he found out management accepted the joke design, he was scared for his life, because he was afraid everyone would realize that the finished N-Gage design was actually based on goatse.
>Nobody spotted it.

No, even normies understood what a stupid idea this was. No one wanted to use a Game Boy Advance as a phone, which is basically what it was. The industry did trick them into this concept years later, though, if you disagree look what smartphones and tablets did to young millennials and zoomers

N-gage Xanadu Next is a different game that was made at the same time as the PC game. Falcom outsourced it to ScriptArts who finished their game before the PC version released
