>Speaking as someone who's only 30, I wouldn't say that I have an inherent bias against new games,

I didn't necessarily mean you had a bias against new games, rather a bias in the types of games you like which tend to be more common at a given era. Also there's nothing at all wrong with that.

For example though even though I grew up playing many of them, I never really cared for platformers. So while understandably there are many here who mourn the death of traditional platformers like Mario and Sonic, I barely played them anyways so don't miss them. On the other hand, roguelikes which are a genre I love are all trying to appeal to a broader audience now and so almost every one has some kind of Mystery Dungeon progression elements mixed in which to me ruins the formula of a good roguelike.

But even still, of the old ones there are plenty I haven't played fully and others like Ivan that I doubt I'll ever beat. So if others are enjoying games in a similar vein and having fun more power to them, to me they are like Diablo in that sense. Not something for me, but that's fine.

Mostly the retro games I talk about here are old genesis stuff like Ecco or old KoF because I'm old and don't have time to learn new fighters anymore and general reminiscing about stuff I used to play.

I'll take your 3rd strike analogy, but given that I'd say '98 UM is their Super Turbo and '02 UM is Alpha 3.

KoF fans have played all of them, they just end up focusing more on the ones they like best. For most that's 98 or 02.

I was just curious. All the moves in MotW are made to be super easy to do so I get that. It's funny cause overall I like SNK fighters more than Capcom but SF3 always felt like a high point whereas MotW feels like a low point. Jennet is cool but the cast is so tiny and mostly not that interesting to me. Two Kim clones that are neither as good, Tzok is just lame and Rock is a neat idea but he just came off feeling boring.

Ohh I've been on 4chan a long time and this board since it started. It just never ceases to amaze me how hard people on this board in particular will bend over backwards to talk about anything other than the actual game.

Kof 98 or 02. Last Blade and MotW are decent but more rudimentary and better for beginners.

No exaggeration, it's my favorite dpad of all time for fighting games. It's small but rolls perfectly so it's real precise. I can bang out double half circles and orochinagis faster and easier on that thing than any other.

I looked forward to it so much, but something never felt quite right and I didn't like the way fireballs etc looked. In the end I mostly just stuck with KoF.

You're either mixing me up with another anon or misunderstanding. I'm pretty good mostly just because I've been into fighters for so long, but that doesn't mean anything. I do think they get more fun the more skilled you are, but even then one of I think the greatest things about the genre is if the person you're playing with is around your same skill level they're incredibly fun all the way from novice to tourney fag tier.

I am very vocal that I think its a pretty awful genre as a single player game and usually I'm objective about it. But there's that one guy in particular who keeps bringing up single player and wanting people to care, usually getting very deffensive and jerkish and at this point it's just become fun to poke him. But make no mistake, it has nothing to do with his or my relative skill levels.

I've loved fighters since before they were even really a thing, I got deeply obsessed with Budokan and then Street Fighter 2 and MK hitting was crazy. Though unpopular as this is to say I always dug MK more even though I could tell it was less good. Then I played KoF and it blew everything else out of the water. My favorite is still probably KpF98, though I like all of them to some degreeband 02 is pretty great as well. I used to play daily but hardly ever do anymore. The last fighter I really invested time in was Injustice which wasn't anywhere near as good but was solid fun and no one but me ever seemed to catch on to how broken Wonder Woman is.
