Arena shooter "fans" don't play their games. They are responsible for killing AFPS. Other genres were able to accept less popularity and build niche communities to keep them alive.

>RTS fans keep Starcraft Broodwar and AoE2 alive and a niche scene for SupCom, TA, non-reforged WC3
>Melee fans keep a pretty sizable scene alive for Melee

There's a problem when I can turn on Quake Live and only see a 6v6 clan arena game on campgrounds and some Russians dueling. Maybe a race server but everything else dead. Quakeworld and CPMA will have less than 5 players. Even Quake Champions is basically dead and has long queue times despite F2P. Meanwhile, I can log on fightcade, slippi, or b.net now and get games in retro titles and those games are all just as hard as arena FPS. Instead of accepting they were niche and trying to build a community, they LARP on ESR and 4chan, call each other faggots, and tell new players to kill themselves. They wait on the next arena game to just explode in popularity then when it never does they jump onto the bandwagon for the next one.

Even the people who actually play are also dickheads. What happened when TF2 players were interested in QL? Were they grateful that there were a surge of people to make the game alive again? No, they raged and threw a temper tantrum then told them to leave. Quake players all have a favorite movement physics/armor/timer system and won't touch a game with slightly different deviations. CPM players won't play QW players won't play vQ3 players won't play QC players. And they all hate UT. Really, it was your exploitation of these games to extend your e-penis, LARPing, and extreme hostility that killed arena FPS/Quake. You are responsible for killing your own games. A dev (both indie/AAA) would be retarded to waste all those resources to make another arena game where past attempts failed catastrophically.

ALL OF THE OLD industrial maps were made for Q2, but bickering spoke 1st.

there is a reason of why people got tired of Q1 mapping or even or playing after AD and Q1.5, because AD was perfect, and Q1.5 was the ultimate improvement, and all we have now are mappers instead of doing something new, they keep searching for scraps like racoons in a trash bin.

The community asked for it, now it will die as Unreal did.

That's not a very good argument. Running numbers in your head on the fly is as much a skill as dodging to not get hit in the first place; enormous parts of Quake MP is based entirely on that aspect, whether it be timing items, gauging opponent health and armor, delaying pickup spawns, etc. Knowing exactly how much damage the player will give or take allows players to be that much more daring in their gameplay; they can no longer say, "Well, if I die, the RNG just fucked me! If I live after I mess up, I got lucky!" Instead, if they fuck up and die, it's entirely their fault, and if they succeed by the skin of their teeth, there was no random number generator deciding they were going to take 15 damage instead of 25.

RNG can work in other games, but Quake in particular is an extremely mechanical game where there's no reason for it to be a prominent factor in the gameplay.
