Why can't you understand the concept of eras? It's so simple. The birth of video games - 1999 and the dreamcast was the retro era. We are in a new era now. The game boy advance will never be a part of that previous era.

I don't care! The golden age of cinema doesn't mean the movies need to be literally made of gold, it's a word that captures the essence of the time period and getting caught up on it is autistic.

The comic books people have solved this issue long before us. I get video games are young, but the idea of retro games being "anything made over 10 years ago" is bad. It should instead be viewed as an era, permanent and stand-still. This is what /vr/ should be, a board to this specific era of video games.

Games from 19XX-1999 all had general design philosophies, recurring elements, structures, and so on that all unify them. It was a wild west of innovation along with refinement. Games made in the 6th Gen (Dreamcast excluded since it was an odd one out) would go into a much different direction with their trends and gameplay elements.
